I've heard the carbonation can cause some troubles for your pouch. Like it can cause it to stretch? Also it can cause you some discomfort because it creates all these air pockets in your stomach ... think back to when you had gas pains after surgery. It can be like that I guess. I've had one since I've had surgery and it was alright but It was a small one and I drank it really slow and it was filled with mostly ice. I dont want to risk getting sick or anything so thats why I drank it that way. I probably wont have any more though because I felt kinda weird afterwards.

I love my Diet Coke and was so looking forward to enjoying a glass after I recovered... Well wow I thought I was gonna die! The mistake I made was pouring a class and drinkning it way to fast... I was so uncomfortable.. basically foaming at the mouth.. pleasant I know but I wanted to warn you. Since then I have had a soda... ( and a beer ) and this is what I do... let it sit out in a glass for a little bit.. the bubbles seem to subside and the carbonation is not that strong! And always remember to not drink too fast!!! Enjoy and good luck!

I aksed 3 bariatric surgeons this very question. All referenced the "theory" about the CO2 expanding the band. None of them believed it. They all said it has no nutritional value so its not good for you but they also all said its perfectly fine to have in moderation. They suggested letting some of the bubbles out prior to drinking. So go ahead... enjoy a diet soda from time to time.
