I was banded September of 2005 weighing 220 lbs. 5 years & 2 months later, I was back in my surgeons office weighing more then I did before surgery. I thought my band had slipped or eroded or something, because I was feeling a lot of discomfort & acid reflux. After having a barium study, I was told by my surgeon that everything was perfect & he couldn't understand how I could have gained so much weight with the device in place. After a long discussion with him, he decided to tighten the band and added 2ccs. I was confused :cursing:, b/c here I thought that I was maxed out in the amount of saline to be placed in my port. I never really got a complete answer from him, but I will next month when I see him.

Anyway, right now I feel so ashamed and like such a failure to have gained all the weight back plus more. I'm feeling really down. I'm so glad that I found this forum & I'm going to try and keep in touch with you all as to my progress. I do need a lot of support. I don't really have the support of my family and to my knowledge, there is not a support group in my town and El Paso is too far for me to go. So I will need to rely on you all. I don't know if any one out there has or is going through what I'm going through, but if you are, please let me know. Thank you.

This is a wonderful place to come for support. Please take the approach that this is a new journey. It is okay to start over again with a new attitude and focus. Go out and get yourself the foods that you should be eating. Also, get a journal to log everything from your protein intake, vitamins, and add exercise into your day. Start with a small walk and gradually increase. You can do it! Just recharge your attitude! I wish you the best. Keep us posted.

I thought my lapband was going to be my "savior" so to speak. Boy was I wrong! after the initial 13 lb loss, I didn't lose anymore. I had to join a gym and really exercise. I'm SO thankful that I've had to work so hard for this loss. Now, 8 months later, I've lost 50 lbs and gone from a 24w to a 16 misses. The band started me on my way, but hard work and a lifestyle change is the only way to do it. I'm half way there and plan on making it!!!!

There are many many wonderful people on this site to help, listen, support and provide experience. I personally could not have handled some of the things that came about as part of the banding process without the bloggers and forum participants. Learning that the LB is just one of the tools you need to get healthy and lose weight is a big lesson (no pun intended). Wrapping your head and heart around that will be one of the biggest steps you take.

Best of luck to you!
