I need some advice. I'm not sure how to tell people I have been banded. I do not want to lie but I don't want to hear all the B.S. either. I realize it's not anyone business but people are starting to ask questions. My family is very supportive but my husband feels it isn't anyone business. How did you all handle it.....HELP

It is up to you. If you feel comfortable telling, then do. I shared it with everybody up front, because I didn't want to lie. My church family is so supportive, and I have their prayers that I wouldn't have had if I had kept it from them.

It's your story, so you choose! You're not lying if you say you are eating less and working out more. I was not comfortable telling people at first, so I didn't. Now I don't care who knows! I get the "oh you're lucky, that's an easy way to lose weight" comments, to which I laugh out loud! 2 of my friends are looking into getting banded because of my story, so to me, it was well worth telling about it to help someone else. Do what's best for you!

Don't worry, it's your business, I have told a few friends and relatives but i don't care if they support me or not, it's my choice, what I want and you should feel wonderful about yourself that you are taking the steps to finally loose those unwanted #s. You should not care about what others think, this is YOU. What do you think? I feel great, wonderful, excited, energetic, and fabulous that I have elected lap band surgery--after all my wife made all of the arrangements and talked to the doc's Korean docs for me, and all I did was set the date and show up--what a ride on this journey. I have had a blast. Surely you will get lots of comments but remember don't take them personally if they are negative, YOU MUST THINK POSITIVE AND ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY. Remember it's a long term journey so it may take a year to a year and a half to loose--maybe faster. BE HAPPY

It is no one's business, but it is also nothing to be ashamed of. I tell anyone who will listen because my insurance company would not cover penny one. I did not have the surgery for vanity, I had it for health reasons and I am hoping we can turn things around for the next person who isn't as fortunate as I was to be able to pull $13,400 out of the bank and have life saving surgery.

If you are not comfortable telling, don't. You are going to work very hard to lose the weight because the Lap Band is only a tool. You will have to watch what you eat and work out. So, no one will be the wiser.

Good luck and I hope you make the right decision for you.

I am not banded yet. My date is Friday, Nov. 5th coming up soon, but when I start losing weight and people ask me, I will tell the truth. I too had someone tell me it is the easy way out and I just ignored them. They are either jealous or not a good friend. I really don't care what people think. You will have some that are very supportive and others that can't handle your success. It is not your problem however, it is theirs. Rejoice in the fact you have come so far and how happy you are and nothing else matters.

I told EVERYONE that would listen that I was getting banded. My co-workers had so many questions but then they got tired of hearing about it. I even have everyone trying to eat healthier too. Ppl comment b/c they want the same results & those that are negative are too ignorant to become knowledgeable or understand how the band really works. Easy way out is the LAST thing this is. I'm happy for you & you should be too! Tell the world!

I think you should just follow your heart. I would have gotten banded two years ago but listening to others negative opinions discouraged me and I didn't get banded. I am now heavier than I've ever been. I decided again to do the band and I am truly blessed that my insurance is covering it so I will be banded November 4, 2010. I am currently on liquids and my starting weight was 272 (two years ago I was 245) I am currently 259 with the help of the liquid diet. With that being said, had I followed my heart two years ago, I may have already gotten to my goal weight today.

I told everyone way before my surgery and I personally REGRET telling people. People judge you and expect the weight to fall off like gastric patients. They watch everything you eat. Me personally I wouldn't tell anyone u didn't have too.
