Hello everyone. So I decided to do the Lap Band, I went in today for my first appt to meet the doctor and see what I need to do. I am tired of being overweight and not being able to play with my two kids, it is so hard to breathe at times due to my weight and I made the choice to try to get help this way. I have to go see a Sleep Apnea specialist and go to an all day class and see a psychologist. Did everyone go through this? Does anyone recommend the lap band? I am so scared and nervous any advice would be greatly appreciated.

To start.. If you weren't nervous then you haven't thought about this completely.

The decision to band or not to band is personal. I think to be succesfull you have to committ to the decision.

My preop consisted of an endoscopy, sleep study, psych eval, a visit to a hematologist, more "other" labs, and a letter signed off by my Rhuemaltologist. A psych eval is pretty standard insurance requirement. The rest is determined by your personal health assesment.

I recommend the lap band. I can't imagine going forward with out it at this point. The morning of surgery though I wasn't convinced and almost didn't go. Most people will have their "what am I doing" moment.

Read everything you can. Make an informed decision for your self. This isn't a quick fix but a tool for the REST OF YOUR LIFE!!!!

Bandit and I are living happily ever after.

I too was nervous - my boss kept asking if I was excited and I said, no - not excited!! Just ready to get on with my life and need to calm down and know that I did my research. My only wish was that I was 2 months down the road instead of right at the turning point.

It only took me about a month and it is 2nd nature now. I do love the control it has given me and I remember when I finally felt excited, it was after I had healed some and I said - NOW I know I did this for MYSELF !!

fool4dance is right - it is a personal decision and research is your best bet - read everything you can to learn what will be required after surgery. Personally, this is the best decision I've made for myself - I haven't had any problems and am doing well on the journey. I started off by saying, "I don't care if the weight comes off slowly, just so it stays off" and I still feel that way, but the weight is just dropping off and I'm thrilled with that. More exciting, though, will be getting to my goal weight and staying there - that has never happened before. So . .. best wishes in YOUR decision!

I know how you feel. I am in the pre-op stage. I have days that I am so ready for it and also days that I really dont want to do it because I am afraid. It is such a personal decision, one that only YOU can make. Good luck either way you choose!

Thank you all for your replies, I barely got around to reading these sorry. Well I did my sleep study and have my psych and all day class in November 9th so I am excited. My Md office keeps calling me to see if I am done with that stuff yet to get my surgery date. I am ready to do it and hope it all goes smoothly. I am commited and sure it will be a great tool for me....
