job hunting

Well, I've started looking around for a better job. I work seasonal right now, get good money, but I need something year round if I want to support me & the kids. My husband has drank away everything he owns and I see him drinking away this house inside the next 5 years, he already drank his buisness away, his vehicle, so I have to save myself. And there's no way I'm going to bust my butt working just so he can continue drinking. It's either he quits or I'm gone. Oh who am I kidding, I want out of here. I am disgusted with it all. In the past 15 years I worked so hard making a nice home for my kids, I can't beleive it will all be gone soon and someone else will be enjoying all my hard work. In a way I'm glad my father isn't around to see all this. But I know deep down that it's not my fault. He's the one drinking drinking DRINKING. I feel bad for my kids because they;ve grown up with a beautiful big yard and a nice house, and we'll probably end up in an apartment somewhere. they will definately hate me, blame me, resent me, but in the end I hope they see & remember how their dad treated us. |Too bad we'll have to lose everything though.

Have you encouraged your husband to get help such as treatment? Addiction is not something that you can just stop without an intervention- we know that, we had to have weight loss surgery to work on our food addiction.

Of course we've talked about it. His grown children from a previous mariage talked to him about it (they don't come around much because of it) He knows he has a problem, admits it, but won't get help for it. He keeps saying he's too old to change. I think he's too scared to change. After 15 years if it, and watching it get worse, I've had enough, life is too short for all this waiting.

As a Christian, I cannot encourage to you to leave him. However, as a woman I belive your responsibility is to your children. His drinking is a potential hazard to you and the kids then by all means get out of there. He is a grown man who has chosen the path he is on. Sometimes taking drastic measures MAY help him. As far as your kids hating you, I am sure when they are all grown up they will love thier Mama for making the decision to take care of their needs. You will not be the first to leave and start fresh. As the famous adage goes, " A journey of a million steps begins with one". As time goes on you will be able to get all the nice things again such as the house, yard, cars etc.

You sound like a wise and strong woman. One thing I have realized is that you cannot not make people change. That entirely depends on the person. I pray that you find a full time job that will enable you to take care of your family. As long as you are alive, God will give you the wisdom and strength to make it. Good Luck!

I agree with mamasugar, taking drastic measures maybe the motivation he needs. He will continue to drink as long as he can. He knows that he has support if he decides to get help. Now you need to take care of you and your children. You will be in my prayers.

I have to ditto mamasugar as well! you will be in my prayers!! I have alcoholics and pill addicts in my family so I know exactly what you are going through! You have a tough road ahead of you but if you let god in he will guide you and protect you! Please take care of yourself and your children.
