The Big Event..My First Fill

Whew....it is finally over..my first fill. It was not nearly as bad as I had envisioned. However, I was greatly surprised by the size of the needle. My Dr. was really sweet and he was telling me exactly what he was going to do. I really appreciated that until....he felt the need to show me that long needle. He could have skipped that part and I would have been just fine. He put 3 cc's in my band. It was not bad at all. It was much easier than getting a shot. Now I am hopeful that I will not find myself getting hungry. He stated that I should be eating 1/2 cup at a meal. That seems like such a small amount. How do we get enough calories to keep from going into starvation mode? I wished I would have asked him that question. However, if anyone has the answer please let me know.

I have had my second fill as of 9-9-10 which turned out to be an over fill. I had to take 1cc out this past Monday. I now feel sooooooooooo much better. How much restriction are you feeling with the 3cc you were given. I have a standard 10cc band and I have a total of 3cc in it at this time. I have pretty good restriction and it takes so much less than before to satisfy me. I pray everything goes well for you.

Yeah that needle is huge! As for not going into starvation mode..I do eat about a 1/2-3/4 cup per meal...

Shake for breakfast..200 calories..just not into breakfast..no other reason

Lunch..about 250 calories...tuna, chicken salad, lunch meat with cheese rolled up, soup..salad with chicken strips.

Dinner...500 cals: 2-3 oz of any meat..seafood, chicken, steak, hamburger..you name it I cook it somehow..1/4 cup of mashed potatoes & 1/4 cup of veggies

Snacks..sometime throughout the day, usually the afternoon and evening...apple with laughing cow cheese, sugar free Popsicles, sf pudding, 10 grapes.

I allow for about 200 calories for snacks...I probably will eat about 5 popsicles a day if not more (I live in Florida so it is pretty hot).

Anyway, that is how I come up with my calories and don't end up in starvation mode and eat a small amount. I hope this helps. I have 5ccs in a 10cc band..only once did I try to go to 6ccs and was way too tight, went down to 5.5 and now went down to 5.0.

Another thing is that I eat until I am satisfied not until I am full..that helps a lot also.

Take care and I wish you the best!

Thanks for the comments. Since my fill was near the end of the day yesterday. Today was the first full day. Wow, what a difference. I love it. I am not starving between my meals. I love that! Although, I did notice that I need to really make sure to chew. I take a bite or two..break a little bit....take a few more bites. This has worked for today. Right now the 3 cc's seems to be the right amount. I can eat, but I can't eat as much as before my fill. After my surgery and before the fill, I had to play mind games to convince myself that I was full. It is nice to actually be full.

Dadkins8 - I'm so happy to read your posts and that you're doing well. I've been wondering myself about how you actually feel full when eating such small amounts. I invision being full "up top" but feeling hungry in the pit of my stomach. Sounds like it all works out though. Please keep posting.
