Liquid Diet

So, after I had Panera this afternoon at lunch (instead of my normal soup, I got a sandwich...kind of as a goodbye to white breads!), I started to think about this liquid diet coming up next week . When I go to the store this weekend, I need to start picking up some items. My surgeon's office is mailing me a packet with pre op instructions, but I want to know from all of you what are the best things you had during this time to get you through it.

Was there a particular broth, sugar free jello, or something like that that you enjoyed having? Also, how did you get through this time without actual FOOD?! Did your body go into shock  ? I figure it'll be a mental game that I can play and just try to get through each day. Truly, the thought of no physical food is scary.

Okay, last question, what are some good sugar free treats that you enjoy either before or after the surgery?

Sugar free popcicles!! You can chew them and the flavor is nice and strong so you actually feel like you're eating. For me they really helped with the hunger before and after surgery. Lucky for me though, I only had to do clear liquids for 2 days before surgery and 3 days after.

Good luck!

I made my own vegetable and chicken broths and froze them in one cup containers . . . then I could add beneprotein powder to them if I wanted. And yes, the sugar free popsicles are a must!

I agree.. Sugar free popsicles! JAlso, I ate Jell-o (by Jell-o) I do not reccomment Hunt's brand or a generic brand. Also make sure that you get a tasty protein shake. I actually JUST finished my liquid diet yesterday. I chose to do 2 weeks liquid prior and 2 weeks liquid after. You will feel "mean" after a few days.. Then honestly your body will get used to it.. I am not going to say that you will not be hungry some days.. But remember, it is only temporary. With strictly sticking to this, I have managed to loose 29 pounds in 4 weeks! Stay strong girl! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions! You are wonderful! My doctor's office said I need to have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and I can have a Lean Cuisine for dinner. But, I can have as much chicken broth and sugar free popsicles and Jello as I want. Hopefully, I won't be too awfully starved. At least it's better than all liquids..lol. My daughter's sitter had it done and she recommended Bariatric Advantage shakes so I am going to stock up on those, too.
