im pretty sure my surgeon is nuts.

when i asked him how many calories a day im supposed to be eating (when i had a tight fill), he said 1200-1500. eating healthy food choices in the recommended amounts, im only getting in between 600-800 calories a day.

 

and he tells me that tuna salad, fat free cottage cheese and eggs are 'bad choices' and 'should be avoided'. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? theyre high in protein in low in fat and sugar which is what he told me to look for.

 

there is just NO pleasing the man!

then again, he also tells me that theres no way my band could be tighter during 'that time of the month' and i KNOW thats complete BS.

Why are tuna salad, cottage cheese and eggs bad for you?

All three are on our nutritionist list as good proteins. She doesn't even recommend non fat cottage cheese, just low fat or 2%. She also says egg whites are awesome but limit egg yolks to 2 a week. Tuna salad with low fat or fat free mayo is recommended. On her list is the little tuna to go packs with light mayo, pickle relish and crackers. I do one a week it would seem.

Interesting how they are all different.

i have no idea why he thinks they are bad. he seems to think i should live off protein shakes and vitamins. which would be stupid since the band doesnt help if im only ever having liquids.

My team wants us off liquids and onto solid dense protein. At this point, post first fill, they actually don't want us doing any protein shakes at all. Strictly solid foods. Preference for dense sustainable proteins: animal derived.

I am almost 2 months post op, harliquinn, and getting 600 - 800 calories a day, which right where my nutritionist says I should be . ..making sure of course to get 50 - 80 gm of protein . . . I don't know what your doc is thinking??

My surgeon doesn't want me to have any liquid calories (protein shakes, soup...), and nutritionist agrees. He's wanting me to not "be on a diet". I'm kinda liking the fact his goal is for me to be able to eat just about any kind of food in moderation. I was dropped to 800 cals a day about 2 months ago...body went into starvation mode and I gained a few pounds. Went back to 1000-1200 and I'm back down again. Everyone is different and you'll figure out a good balance for you!
