What NOT to do during your first fill!

OK, so I thought I had prepared myself mentally, but boy was I wrong! I worked myself and my stomach (which made things so much worse) into such a tizzy, that they ended up having to remove 4 of the 6 DROPS they added. If only I knew how easy a fill would be prior, things would have gone so much smoother!

So, to my friends who have yet to have a fill:

1. It does NOT hurt! I am the biggest baby when it comes to needles, and I swear, I did not even feel a tenth of what I do when they take blood!

2. Relax and be calm. The band does react to stress (makes sense, we all feel stress in our stomachs!) and can make the fill very uncomfortable.

I go back in 2 weeks and I know it will go better!!!

I easily second that it's no big deal. I got my first fill on Monday but had no restriction. I went back in today and was stuck 3 times. First they inserted 2 cc's. Then I couldn't swallow anything so they took out .5 cc's and I tried water again, still not working. They had to then stick me again to take out .5 cc's more. Though I'm now a little irritated by my port it really wasn't a big deal. Heck waxing my eyebrows and lip are far worse and I do those too in the name of beauty!

I've had two and I had to be told it was starting and over. I have a harder time in traffic driving to the surgeon than I do with fills. LOL @ fool -- waxing hurts more.

I'm glad you are going back. An idea? Try deep belly breathing if you find yourself getting stressed. Seems to relax things a bit?

Hugs!!!!!

Well, I am one of those "haven't had a fill yet" people, so I really appreciate the information! My best to you!!

Fills, Anyone needing more fills...I had 4 already-nothing to them. Less than five minutes with the doc and 15 minutes in the lobby to drink water--whalla done. But that's after a 4.5 hour bus and subway ride. Then it's time to head back yep, an all day event for 5 minutes. I did this 4 times already. First two fills, two weeks apart, then the third one month and the fourth well about 7months out. Each of the first three fills were 2.0 cc and the last a 1.0 cc. Upon returning from my trip I will head to the doc's once more in Oct and get another. I have a 10 cc band. There is nothing to worry about, it's like getting a flu shot. I watched the doc the last three times, very interesting and did not feel a thing. I love my fills. Drinking water is a must after getting a fill. So if you can't drink water--let the doc know. Good Luck
