Hey guys, got a question, I know that the goal with the protein shakes is to get the max protein intake, however with so many out there, Im confused... On the paper work from my surgeon, they give you examples such as boost, ensure and slim fast... after reading the labels on them, i was taken back by how much sugar and carbs are in those brands, and choose to go with EAS because it has 17g of Protein, 2g of sugar, and 1g of carb.... Im starting to wonder however if the purpose of the high sugar drinks were to help supplement for what we are not getting from food... Any thoughts?

I use GNC 100% whey protein drink mix (chocolate 20g protein per 1 scoop 8 oz. I mix with 2% milk whick also 10 g protein per 8 oz. Sometimes I just make a 4oz drink 3 x a day and get 45 g protein easy. It mixes well and tastes great! It is at most stores rite aide, walmart, etc.. I paid $14.99 and it lasts me about 2 weeks. They sell it in larger containers I just get smaller ones at first so if I don't like the flavor I can change, but I will be buying another one of these this weekend. Good Luck! You can look up the contents on line I think it is 2g sugar, low or no carbs etc.. but don't quote me (this one was suggested by nutritionist)

I drink the same drink as you! But I also use the whey protein by EAS in vanilla and make my own shakes. Yesterday I made a vanilla blueberry shake, it was awesome!

I have used the EAS and it is ok but my favorite right now is Nectar by Syntrax. They have all kinds of flavors. My fav right now is the chocolate truffle. 23 g of protein per scoop and no carb or fat. I mix it with milk. I dilute it cuz it taste kind of sweet to me so I will do 16 oz of milk instead of 8. That makes the shake worth 42 grams of protein.

My surgeon was specific -- the "shakes" were meal replacement with high protein, not just protein. They recommended Optifast and Slim Fast Low Carb for that reason. Honestly, I didn't see a lot of differences in the other vitamins and I take Bariatric Advantage vitamins so it probably wouldn't have mattered.

Protein and taste.........

Avoid anything that is high sugar and calories. Remember, protein in without the sugar/calories will help you lose weight, feel full and keep your strength up. Remember, take your vitamins. Good luck.

I use Muscle Milk Lite (Chocolate) from GNC. It has 32 grams of protein per 8 oz (2 scoops), 2 grams of sugar. However it has 16 grams of carbs, Is this bad?
