:) I think I would Kill for a coke right about now! That has been the hardest thing for me, the food yes I feel hungry but I can drink a protein shake and be fine or broth etc. But seriously I want something more than water.... I am curious did everyone give up soda all together even after the month or so post op or does anyone drink diet soda oppose to regular? I have a friend who had gastric bypass and she drinks soda like crazy and she is doing great... is it just me that thinks I can't? I understand why the soda isn't good for me right now, healing and all but really...

My doctor says no pop . . . and honestly, I haven't missed it. I wondered how I would do because I often had a Vernor's in the evening when I had an upset stomach. I think now I had an upset stomach because I was eating too much because I haven't had that feeling at all since starting the pre op liquid diet. My understanding is that the pop can stretch out your pouch - yikes!

Great advice from marw and crsti41 it isn't worth the bubbles stretching out your pouch plus you don't really heal for 6-8 weeks maybe longer. I have a friend that has been a couple years out on surgery and now and then she sips a bit of soda but sometimes its ok but at times it really bothers her. I wouldn't try it maybe a sip of cold tea or lemonade just something different than water now and again may help. Good luck!

I tried some diet coke at lunch a couple weeks ago. First, I made the mistake of drinking through a straw which I've read isn't good. But the soda didn't feel good when it got down. Kind of rumbled a lot. Never did have more than those two sips, and haven't missed it.

I used to be a four can a day person. Could not get out the door in the morning without one already drank and one in my hand for the drive...........

My doctor told me to wait 60 days and then just limit my soda. I am able to drink any diet soda except diet mountain dew. I only drink 1 a week, I would ask your doctor to make sure. Good Luck!

Being honest here, I drank 2-3 20oz bottles and 2-3 cans every day. Yes I said every day before surgery. I started cutting back and replacing it with Vitamin Water Zero. I have been soda free since March. Occassionally I will take a sip of my hubby's soda but that's about it. I was told the bubbles can stretch the pouch and can be uncomfortable. Not worth finding out.
