Ok...so this week I am taste testing different protein drinks. I went to GNC and purchases some Isopure Alpine Punch and some Myoplex Carb Control Chocolate Fudge.

I JUST tried the Isopure and I thought I was going to die! No wonder people lose weight if they have to drink this stuff! OMG...I think I want to puke! Seriously...it has taken me 2.5 hrs...and I'm still not done with 1 bottle of 20 oz! The taste isn't even the worst part.....I have a raging headache! I think it is the fake sweeteners in the drink. I am fairly certain that I am intolerant to ANY kind of sweetener that isn't sugar....even this stuff that they call "Sucralose", which says it is "made" from sugar. I'm not sure what I am going to do??? I think it'll be bad enough going through the 10 days of Pre-op diet....but if I am going to be having a huge headache everytime I have to struggle to get these drinks down??? Is this a sign that this is a bad decision for me?? If I'm not even going to be able to drink these drinks???? I'm really bummed. Please help...

The Isopure stuff is disgusting...I mean disgusting. I bought the 8 oz bottle and couldn't finish that. lol.

If you want some good protein try the brand nectar by syntrax. I get mine from allstarhealth.com but you might find them somewhere local if you are in a big city. I am not. Anyways they are not bad. I got the fuzzy navel not bad if you mix it with orange juice or propel mango peach flavor. I recently bought the chocolate truffle and crystal sky. Neither are horrible. The chocolate to me is a little sweet. The crystal sky is pretty good but kind of clumps a little...you must shake the fire out of it.

Another thing that is not bad and you can get them at walmart is body fortress protein shots. They are fruit punch flavor and only 3 ounces. That's what I like about them. They are a little bit syrupie but 2-3 drinks and they are gone :)

Hope this has helped.

hahaha...glad to hear I'm not the only one who thought that stuff was AWFUL!!! :) hahaha....It is sitting on my desk, half full....just staring back at me. I'm ready to toss it. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be drinking anymore of those!! :) hahaha....

Someone on my last post did recommend the "Nectar", along with a website where I could purchase it. I bought a trial pack of several different flavors, so I'm looking forward to trying those. I'll also try those Protein Shots. How many grams of protein in those? Everything is just SO expensive! It's crazy. 20 oz of that Isopure crap was $4.69! ACK.

I'm also looking into unflavored protein powder....so hopefully, I can get that down and manageable. It's the headache that is really killing me! Even now...several hours after drinking that crap (half of it)...and I still have a raging headache! :)

Muscle Milk light is fairly good and 20-22 g of protien per drink but a little expensive for premade. A friend told me to try Pure Protien at Trader Joes they are 30g protien per drink and she said the chocolate is good. The GNC powder protien 100% whey is good as well and fairly economical I bought it at Rite Aide for $14 and it makes 14 servings so works out to be about $1 per serving. It is a quick disolving mix so not clumpy and has 20grams protien.

Hi y'all. I have been to hell and back with those protein drinks. This is my 7th day of preop diet. My doc requires 90 g of protein and 0 carbs. I tried the isopure chocolate, the isopure flavored drinks, it was all too nauseating to drink. I got the Amplified wheybolic extreme 60 from GNC. 50 g of protein and 7 carbs. I only had to drink two of them so I was still very low carb. A serving is three scoops so I mixed chocolate with vanilla and came up with a good tasting drink. Here is the problem. I am allergic to whey protein. I was so sick, I could hardly stand for 5 days. I thought it was just withdrawal from carbs and caffeine but after some research, I found that all of my symptoms fit the allergy perfectly. I took a day off the diet and started feeling better while I discussed my options with the doc office. The only option really was the Pro performance 95 SOY protein from GNC. It doesn't taste as good but I can swallow it. It is kind of cardboardy. After a day I am fine so I must have been on the mark with the allergy. I have to drink it 4 times a day though. It has less protein per shake but I might be able to get through the next 7 days. After surgery, we are going to think of something different.

Jennay - The protein shots have 26 grams of protein. No carbs and I think about 110 calories...something like that. They are about $2 a piece or sometimes I can find a box of 6 for $10. Everything is expensive...it is so much cheaper to eat unhealthy but I am trying to tell myself in the long run it will be cheaper....fewer dr. visits, no meds...cuz I will be healthy!
