Motivation has Left the Building

So apparently you can throw up 5-7 times a day for five months and not have your band slip. Still not recommended by any means, but my upper GI scan shows everything is where it's supposed to be. It also showed that I have zero restriction and that stuff is just flying through the band. No kidding. Maybe this is why I'm so damn hungry all the time?

With the nausea, the hunger, the puking and my doctor's apparent lack of interest in why I'm having so much trouble, I have to say I've lost all motivation to make this work. Every time I get remotely close to restriction, I start puking my guts out. I'm not too tight, we've got pictures to prove it. My doctor is baffled as to why six days out of seven food sits in my stomach like a lead ball until I puke it up, and on the seventh day I could eat the entire grocery store. There is no pain, just nausea. The food is not stuck. On an empty stomach I can put back a litre of water in less than five minutes... none of this 'small sips to feel it trickle through' required. Still haven't lost a single pound since the pre-op diet, which also made me sick.

Just once in my life I wish something would go my way when it comes to my health. Band problems are the proverbial last straw to years of constant pain, exhaustion and illness. It's not so much that I want to give up on the band as I want to give up. I'm tired; there's no more fight in me. All I have are memories of the things I've had to give up as I got sicker: soccer, bicycles, violin, piano, walking, school, jobs... 24 years of drugs, doctors and hospitals and I'm done.

I'm genuinely happy for those who are band success stories. Keep on going! :rolleyes2: Just because I'm too broken to be fixed doesn't mean that nobody around me can be happy. Maybe I'll make a last ditch effort to see if I can make some other surgery work for me. Given my track record of medical problems though, I don't think another surgeon is going to want to go anywhere near me. Time will tell.

I am so sorry that this is happeing to you...Maybe I can give you some suggestions to see how this holds on your stomache....Maybe try to go back to the first and second stages of the band after surgery...and on the seventh day when you eat.....Right down everything you eat and put a notation on how your feeling and what possiblly may have triggered the nausea....Good luck!!!

Hello onikenbai I feel so sad for you, that you are having so much trouble with your band. Are you eating smaller portion, band friendly foods, and can you feel your self geting full before you reach that stage of puking. There are so many snacks you can try to eat when you feel hungry. I know the doctors say that people the band just does not work for them. Have you had a second opinion from another weight-loss doctor? I feel your pain and am sending you all my blessing your way. Best of luck.

I am sorry you are having such a hard time. It is strange and so unprofessional that your doctor is not actively searching for an answer. I am hoping you find some relief!

Onekenbai - hang in there don't give up there has to be a solution just keep looking and talking to other bandsters because I am sure you are not the only one that has experienced these results. Sometimes bodies just reject having the foreign object in them and it takes a while for your body to adjust and accept it as part of the new you. I am wishing you all the best and many prayers your way!

I am so sorry that you are having such trouble. It is not fair, but life is not fair. OK, first I would run to another doctor. Your surgeon sounds like an ass. How dare he not be jumping through hoops to find a solution. Writing down everything you put into your mouth is a great suggestion from blossoming. Perhpas you are eating something that you have a food alergy to or too greasy? I would suggest you go back to liquids or pureed food until you get another doctor to check you out. Please do not give up - there are answers out there and with the right doctor, you will find an answer. Good luck to you.

Oh gosh, oni, I'm so, so sorry. I do hope that you will eventually be able to work this out. It is such a great tool, but if it doesn't work for you, I truly hope you find something that does.
