To Support Or Not to Support

Just got home from work, made myself call my Mom, not home so I left her a message to call me when she got in. She wants me to get banded but doesn't want to know when I do it. She agrees that this is going to prolong my life and keep me from suffering from many obese illnesses.

So I have been avoiding talking to her just because it is so hard not talking about everything I'm doing without saying "...gotta do this because in two weeks I will have surgery" or "...need to make these changes because I've only got two more weeks" you know just the idle chitchat that you do without even realizing what you've just reveled. I am so excited about my new life that it is all I talk about at work, at home (poor husband), online, everywhere and anywhere.

The 23rd of July can not get here fast enough for so many reasons.

You can always contact me at dsmith16@tampabay.rr.com It must be miserable not to be able to talk to your mom about what is going on. I only told 3 people about my band..my mom, my dad and my husband...and yes they were very tired of hearing nothing about the band before it happened and then the first few months. You will find so much support here and of course you can blog all you want to share (or vent). We all will always be here!! Hopefully your mom will come around once she sees how successful you are and how healthy you are becoming! I wish you the very best and please do not hesitate to send me an email..I am usually online and I LOVE to talk about being banded. Take care!!

Your mom will come around and she will be so happy when it is done. I think maybe she is just afraid for you to have surgery, any kind of surgery. But as you start getting smaller and feeling better, she will be thrilled.

As Finallyncontrol said, you have friends here. We are all going through the same journey - trying to lose the weight, get healthier so we can live longer. Anytime you need to talk about it, talk here. We love reading eachother's adventures, ideas and suggestions. Join us and become a bandster. Believe me, you'll love it. (Banded 6/21/10)

I have been very happy not telling anyone. My husband, daughter, son are supportive. My sister who had GBP are the only ones that know. My sister is no support what so ever even though she knows. She had GBP surgery 9 years ago she has gained weight and is someone I thought would be helpful but isn't. There is still friction between us.

I use this site more than ever and get all the support I need here. I am also validated by the nurses and nutritionists at my hospital. I have found this to be a private personal matter and telling people at work or even my own mother was NOT an option. I have been able to do very well on my own with the help of people here. I am all for NOT telling. Best wishes imaluckydog

It is kind of tricky about who you can tell. It's funny, we are judged for being fat in this world but when we try to do something about it, people always talk you down. Everyone is an expert. They all say.... just eat less ans work out more.... I told my husband that if I had a drug problem, wouldn't you want me to go to re-hab? It's the same thing for surgery for a person who struggles with a food addiction.

Once the surgery is over it will be easy to talk to my Mom about everything I will be going through. She wants me to do this, it was her that encouraged me to look in to it. She just knows she will worry herself sick knowing I am going into surgery so it is best for her to stay in the dark until then. I understand where she is coming from but it is just so hard for me not to keep quite. This is such a big event in my life.

My husband and the people I work with are very supportive and are becoming so educated about LapBand because I tell them everything. Having this blog is also such a boost also, I love talking to you guys and every time I hit that "Post Now" button it is like release of emotions and stresses.
