my BODY IMAGE....

I think I have been suffering from a “body image disorder”…. But only not a bad one, a good one, which in the end turned out to be bad….

You know how an anorexic person looks in the mirror but still sees herself as fat, even though she’s only skin & bones? Well, when I look in the mirror, I still see the beautiful, healthy, slim young lady that use to smile back at me 20 years ago. I guess I never really saw myself as “fat”. Sounds great at first but I guess it is kind of bad b/c it took a picture to shock me back to reality-----> that’s when I saw how fat I was!!! So I guess the reality check is a good thing b/c it’s motivation to lose weight!! :frown:

Body image is a term which may refer to a person's perception of his or her own physical appearance, or the interpretation of the body by the brain. Essentially, body image describes how one perceives one's appearance to be in relation to others, which in many cases may be dramatically different from one's objective physical condition or how one is actually perceived by others.

I know what you mean because I was EXACTLY the same way! I would be happy enough with myself, but then I would see a picture and freak out. I'm just now getting to the weight (over 50 pounds lost) that I continued to see myself at. I think that I always see myself in this weight zone. It will be interesting when I lost more and get into the next zone. Will I see the new me or the old fatter me? Interesting thought!

Yes yes yes! This is EXACTLY what I was talking about in my post to you! I avoided using the medical term on purpose but I am SO glad you went and researched it for yourself! This is great, steps in the right direction and motivation! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Absolutely agreed, and thank you for the link and the research! I told people for years (and still sometimes feel) that I see a young, skinny me. When I go by a mirror I think "Who is that person?". SERIOUSLY.

The primary reason I won't let people take pictures, I'm sure.

Thanks for the info!

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.

      Einarmige Banditen
