An End to Day 4 of my new Banded life

WOW!! What a rollercoaster day I had!

I guess the swelling in my band went down ALOT because I was hungry every 3-4 hours and I ate every 3-4 hours. I was full each time after 2 oz. I had yogurt, egg salad(I pureed the heck out of it and then thinned it with relish juice), cream of broccoli soup, chocolate cheesecake pudding(lap band recipe).

 

What I found really strange was when I am full at some point I hear gurgling in my belly and it sounds and feels like a clogged drain draining down. Then the full, bloated feeling goes away and I am just comfortable. It was a very interesting day as I had to listen to my stomach to find out what to do next.

 

Oh big problem today. I was cooking dinner for the family and absentmindedly I take a spoon of the food and pop it in my mouth. I was suddenly going OH CRAP and spit it out. It was fettucini alfredo with diced chicken. I am going to have to break out of thiat nasty habit cause that could have turned ugly real fast.

 

Here's the recipe for the chocolate cheesecake pudding from lapband.com

 

Serving size: 1/2 cup Recipe makes: 10

 

Ingredients

 

1 small box instant sugar-free chocolate pudding mix

2 cups milk, skim or 1%

1 small package of low-fat soft cream cheese

1 (8 ounce) tub of low-fat cool whip

Directions

 

1. In a medium bowl, beat pudding mix with 2 cups milk according to package directions.

2. Mix remaining ingredients until all are well blended.

3. Let stand in refrigerator for one hour.

Congratulations. You are doing great so keep up your positive attitude and keep aware; all those nasty pitfalls haven't gone away because of your banding -- you just need to keep learning to navigate better. It gets easier with time.

Every day and every meal is a new adventure so enjoy the ride, all the sounds, and changes as you progress. One thing I noticed in my first three weeks of post-op was how good things smelled -- my meals and whatever else I was taking in.

For me the hardest habit to break was drinking while I ate. My nutritionist emphasized the importance of stopping the intake of fluids 15 minutes before a meal and waiting 30 minutes after the meal. She explained why. If you don't have a nutritionist by all means get one and if you aren't comfortable with him/her then find another. Don't settle. Not now. You have invested too much to settle for anything but what you feel is best for you.

I am not a seasoned vet -- only 50 days post-op but each day seems to get a little easier and my goals get a little closer so right now I am all about encouraging others to get your head on straight. Think about where you are going rather than where you have been. You invested in you. Make the most of it.

Thanks a lot! I know that when I put the food in my mouth without thinking, it made me realize how much I MUST pay attention now. I feel good and everything I do eat seems to taste so much better now. It will take a lot of planning each day so that I have everything I need with me at all times. I go back to work on Thursday so I have time to sort through it all before the real stress begins. I have the chew chew chew part down but the drinking part is a a challenge. I do take a sip or two but I don't actually drink a lot.

Anglov, Sounds like you are doing awesome! I love how WB says it is an investment in you. Haven't we done so much for so many and I guess now is the time for us. Much love with the process! I did want to ask you...how long did you have to take off of work post op? My day is most likely in June and I thought I would be running around the unit the next week. I am a cardiac nurse.
