So I saw my primary care physician on Tuesday and found out that I have to do a 6 month supervised diet before I can have my surgery....no big deal had a feeling that was coming. What I was not expecting to hear is that the food is really expensive and can cost $500 or more per month. Looks like I will be working overtime to offset the cot of the food.

Wondering if anybody has done the HMR diet. Is it really that expensive? How does it taste? I sure could use some insight into the program. My orientation is the 18th, but am curious about other peoples experiences.

I have done HMR. As a matter of fact I would still be doing it if I could afford it. That is why I stopped and ultimately got the lap-band. Yes it is expensive but it works. The food is good, the shakes are great but it is costly. I spent approx. 120 a week on it. I did it for a few months and dropped 40 plus pounds. Why do you have to do that diet? I would ask if I could not do a low cal diet low fat diet. It seems crazy that you have to do that specific diet as long as you have your labs weights etc monitored by an MD as you attempt to lose weight for six months. I would ask. If you are like me that kind of money doesnt just lay around myself. It is however good and it does work. Good luck and God bless. Mechelle

See what your insurance requires, most only require a 6 month physician supervised diet that is under 1200 calories and low sugar and low carb.
