Does it really matter how much you eat before your first fill? If you eat more than 4oz after surgery does it mess up your lapband?

Someone asked me this question I did not know what to tell them so I am looking to you for some answers if you have any. I just told them that the Doc said not to.

Thanks

I've eaten more than 4 oz since surgery and I've been fine. You typically don't want to go over 1 cup at a time, although there are days that I can and have.. that's when I know I REALLY need a fill. As we lose weight, we lose fat around our stomach where the band is so our bands loosen allowing us to eat more. Doesn't meant that we SHOULD but we can if we choose to. Can you damage your band? Yes anytime you over stuff the area you have a chance to harm your band but more importantly the nerve endings in the stoma area.

As for how much you eat BEFORE a fill, I would not suggest going in just after a big meal, for me I typically eat a bigger meal the night before and then fast until my fill, doing liquids and mushies for the first 24-48 hours after the fill.
