Hi everyone! I am having my LAP-BAND®®® surgery on Monday May 3rd and I am really excited about becoming healthy and thin. I do have a concern about being able to have children after the LAP-BAND®®®. My husband and I already have one daughter who is 4 years old. Before deciding to get the LAP-BAND®®® we were trying to have another baby but were unsuccesful after several months. I went to my OB and she told me that she thought do to me being overweight that it was causing my infertility. (It took us over a year to concieve our daughter). I have read some mixed reviews about having children after the LAP-BAND®®®. Some good and more successful due to being at a healthy weight and others where the babies are malnutrientioned and have several birth defects. So I would like to hear from those who have had children after the LAP-BAND®®® if you had any complications during the pregnancy, nutriention and delivery weather you were able to have a vaginal delivery or c-section. We really want more kids but I want to know if I should put that dream to rest after having the LAP-BAND®®® is the risk are too high. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Hey Stefani, I don't know much about the whole pregnancy after lapband, but I don't see how it could cause birth defects or anything like that, the lapband just makes your stomach smaller, and you still get the nutrition that you need from eatting, your just eatting in smaller portitions. I don't know fully though, but I did read the part where you said your doctor told you the infertility could be caused from you being over weight, well I have been over weight my whole life, and I have 2 children, and the two times I got pregnant was when I decided to go on a diet, and was loosing weight, so that sounds like it could be. I suggest talking to your doctor, surgen, ob about your concerns, and seeing what they have to say. Well Good Luck!!!

This is similar to my story. I have a 2 year old son, and we were trying again, 7 months, and nothing happened. I thought it was due to weight that I havent lost since my son was born. We stopped trying and I got the band. 2 months in, I find I'm pregnant!! I'm now 2.5 months after surgery, and down 30lbs. (of which less than 3lbs were lost since I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks ago) I got some stomache aches that I thought were due to the band, but it was pregnancy affecting my band, because now those pains are gone since I got a little bit unfilled. I dont have any restriction, but I havent gained. I'm still eating a lot smaller portion sizes than if I didnt have the band. I hope I can eat well and not gain too much (like I did with my first pregnancy), and I hope the band will go back to work after the birth.

My doc said I should be healthier during pregnancy with the band because I have to take vitamins these days, care about protein, and not just put junk and sugar in my body like I did the first time. 60lbs for 1 baby is crazy!! I dont know what I was thinking when I let myself go like that.

Let's be friends on here, and maybe you can get some more info from my blog as my pregnancy progresses!
