This is all new to me. I was banded on Thur 3/11/10. I felt fantastic the day of the surgery and this morning (Friday) - but I swallowed a pill early this morning without breaking out of the capsule and all day I've had the hiccups. After discharge from the hospital - I came home and have not been able to get anything in. No H20, no broth, no chewable pepsid, no milk - NOTHING. Now, my throat is terribly sore - and frankly so is my esophagaus. I've read blogs in here about blockage and slippage - Has anyone ever been irritated by the hiccups so that it causes discomfort for the rest of the day? I called Dr. Steinberg and he said to take it easy the rest of the day but hopefully I'll drink water tomorrow or he said to come back to the hospital. When I burp I get a slick looking sometimes frothy spit like substance. I did see milk product in it for a while. At first I was scared that I might have made the band slip - but I think more then anything I've just got some kind of irritation or swelling which is preventing the food from going down. Anyone have any thoughts? When i drink water - within minutes it feels like it's coming back up.

Hello, maybe some reassurance. I drink water fast and I have the after affects, burping, DRINK SIPS of Water SLOWLY. After surgery I was sipping only like one sip, very tiny, then some soups, remember small amounts. Today I decided to drink three big fast gulps of water, big mistake. Some discomfort and burping. Afterwards I sipped the water-ok. Remember that whatever you eat, make sure it's small, bits and pieces. After surgery or any fill your tight and as should be, eat and drink slowly, small amounts. Hope this helps.

If this is still happening I'm hoping you've already gone to the hospital. You didn't say anything about vomiting, so I'm guessing you got something down? Sliming (what you described doesn't usually bring much up except the mucus your esophagus makes. Your doc may have given you a small 'primer' fill at surgery (a couple of cc's to fill the port and tubing), and this may be too much for you right now. Don't wait to get to the hospital as getting dehydrated could cause major problems right now!
