Broth suggestions

I'm about 3 weeks from my surgery date. Yay! I'm nervous & excited. I am trying to figure out this website, navigation is a little tough. This is a test - see if I have figured out how to post a blog!

Anyone have some good broth suggestions? Supposed to have only that and jello 3 days post surgery & after fills. I can't believe eating/drinking just plain chicken broth from a can would be any good. I guess I should look up some recipes & try some out before the surgery.

If you have some suggestions, please let me know!!!

Hi, the soup that I used was chicken noodle in a box-I added peas(they are mushy and soft) No problems. You may try creamed soups but it's recommened that they be strained- just cook then run through a strainer into your bowl. I have had various soups immediately after my fills, but on my 3rd fill recently I could only eat 5 or 6 bites, cause I was tight. After that 1/2 to 3/4 cup soup fill's me. After two days I moved on to mashed potatoes and pork and beans. 1/2 cup each. By not eating too much I included a drink or two of water or milk with my meal. Washes down alittle. Check the site out more and you will find recipe's from other bander's. Today I made chicken and dumplings in a crockpot and added celery, carrots, onions, and potatoes. Of course I only eat about 1/2 bowl at meal time. I will save the rest for work this upcoming week. Mornings for breakfast, I either have a shake and two vitamins, or a cheese omlet(2 eggs and cheese). Lunch I have tuna salad with 5 crackers. Drink water inbetween, and for dinner I have my wife fix me cooked cabbage, olives, greenbeans, and a meat, chicken, fish, or beef. Small. Less that 2 oz meat. Basically remember to eat protein type foods. Hope this helps.

I lived off homemade chicken broth (canned stuff is NASTY)...there are variations but I basically stuck a whole chicken (cleaned of course) in a large pot, covered with water, then chunked up carrots, celery, and an onion and threw them in, added a couple garlic cloves, then a bay leaf and salf and pepper to taste....boiled the beast for a couple hours then strained everything off (kept the chicken in the freezer for chicken salad when I hit mushies), it's good, easy, and puts the canned broth the shame.

I like the 'Imagine' brand organic free range chicken broth and also their vegetable broth. The vegetable broth actually tastes rich to me. I don't know how that is possible since it is only 20 calories a cup, but it does. You can usually find this brand in the health food aisle or w/the healthy/gourmet options. It comes in a big box (like a big juice box) that holds 4 cups. 'College Inn' brand also makes different flavored broths that they call 'culinary broth' and I got one that was Thai flavored and that was really yummy. The other liquid I was allowed was decaf tea and I can tell you the best ones are Stash Chai Vanilla and Stash Chocolate Hazlenut. I was only allowed broth, decaf tea, sf jello, and water for the first 4 days post-op so it was nice to find some stuff that at least had good flavor. Good luck to you!
