First vacation after surgery

I love to fly...I really do. I did not like having to put my seatbelt on while flying, though, since it barely fit and when I managed to get the belt buckled, it was so uncomfortable. I was ashamed to ask for a belt extender - I would rather be uncomfortable than call attention to my largeness.

However - last Thursday, I boarded a plane to Dallas, and as I buckled the belt, and tightened it in, and had about four inches of slack. I literally sat in my seat with tears of joy rolling down my face. My daughter managed to snap a photo of the seatbelt for me, and every time I look at it, I am in awe of this transformation of me.(I attached the photo below)

I still look like me, at least I think so when I see myself in the mirror, but the me I see on the scale is most certainly a lighter me.

I think my brain forgot how well the belt fit on the way down to Dallas, since on the way home, I stretched it out to the point where it is all folded over (right at the very end) and then had to pull it tighter....ahhhh. I cannot even put into words the joy in my heart.

My flight was four months after my surgery - 52 pounds lighter, and so much happier.

That's excellent! I just took my first flight after surgery too and hope my next one won't require any armrests raised or seat belt extenders. Luckily I have a 6-year old who is very accommodating. I totally understand how you feel. I always thought it was awful the way people had to ask for them (when I didn't need one - though I was a tight fit anyway) and then one day I needed one. I was lucky that there was an off duty flight attendant sitting next to me and she gave me one to keep because she always felt embarrassed for the people who had to ask for extenders. I have the same one, American Airlines, and I'm hoping to give it to someone else soon.

Fantastic, thats a great NSV (non scale victory)! And Barbara, what a generous thought to give the belt to someone to spare their feelings at having to ask! Maybe write the url for this website on the back of it!

That is so darn exciting! I recently took my first post band air trip also and was so excited I could buckle easily. NOT as loose as you but I didn't have to force it closed! Yayyyyy for you! (and all of us getting there!)

Getting medical care of any kind is unnatural, by the same reasoning that contraception that prevents egg and sperm from uniting is unnatural. Just because this form of unnatural

benefits an old and presumably celebrate man, does not mean that the Catholic Church should approve of it.
