So I went to my first Dr. visit for the lapband. I finally have insurance to cover me and I find out that I droped some weight that took me from a 41.o BMI to a 39.0 BMI. Yea I am happy to have lost 10 lbs. However, My insurance needs me at 40 BMI. I have been set up for a sleep apnea test but my current co morbidities dont qualify. So I almost have to hope for Sleep apnea or Gain back the EFFIN 10 lbs!! I am so torn I droped the sodas and the sugas and it took me 3 months to lose 10lbs. I am almost disgusted to gain them back. How long will it take me to drop 80 lbs ... years!! What should I do????? My friend was like lets get you some lead weights from the pro bass shop...hahaha AMAZING HUH!

Same thing happened to me. My Dr told me that I couldn't disqualify myself from the surgery after I had the insurance approval because they would never see another weight. I actually dropped from 38 BMI to a 34.9. This is because of the preop diet. They want you to lose weight before the surgery because that shows you are following the low card diet getting your liver ready. I told my doctor that I didn't need the band to lose the weight, I had done that 7 times in my life. I needed it to keep it off. I actually lost 24 pounds before my surgery. Everybody is saying that I didn't need the surgery, but I do need the band. I want to get to a healthy weight and stay there for more than 2 years. So I proudly got the surgery with a weigh in of 191 pounds that morning. If you are approved, you should be OK. Just call and ask if you can disqualify yourself on the preop diet. If your Dr says that you can, than the weights might not be such a crazy idea......10 pounds should not disqualify you at this point.

that was my issue, i had to gain about 15 for them to qualify me. but worth it, i know you dont want to gain to have more to lose, i've been banded 9 months and lost 82 pounds.. 37 to my goal of 140. so, minor set back, but you'll lost that 10 pounds alot faster then not being banded.. worth it. love my band.
