I was banded on November 17, 2009. The day after surgery I got a huge bruise on my stomach, the Dr. told me that the body would absorb it, well it didn't. About 10 days after surgery the blood from the hematoma started comming out thru one of my cuts, from the one where the fill port is. I have been having a Home Health nurse come everyday and pack my wound, it needed to stay open so all the blood would come out. The packing started Dec. 11 and is still going on. It has been about 10 weeks since I was banded and I have yet to have a fill Dr. wants to wait until. I have managed to lose 40 pounds so far, sometimes I feel that I don't eat cause I'm scared. Has anybody experinced anything like this? I guess I just want to vent.:)

I have had to have a wound packed..my belly button ruptured--nothing to do with the band (actually prior to getting banded). The packing isn't fun..mine lasted 8 weeks--everyday. I would be torn as to what I would have done or request. Can the Dr guestimate how much longer it is going to take to close up your wound? That is pretty traumatic to the body. If it is only a couple of weeks, I would just wait and then request a fill. Once the wound is closed you will get a fill and then you will be on your way, this is just a minor speedbump.

I also had my surgery on 11/20/09 and first got a hematoma at the port incision which ended up getting infected after 2wks. I have been on 2 courses of Bactrim and have just been started on Doxycycline because the incision is still open. My surgeon had to go in, clean out the wound and remove the inner layers of stitches to let the infection out. I did get a 3.5cc fill (now at 4ccs total) at my appointment on 1/26 but at my appt on 2/9 I had only lost 1lb and have only lost 14lbs total since my surgery. I have done everything I was supposed to do and nothing i wasnt allowed (my husband had the surgery 12/08 and I kept him on the diet/exercise so I know all the ins and outs and he has lost 124lbs!) I feel very defeated at times, like even with this, no matter what I do I will not lose any weight.
