1/13/10 The Economy Crashed My Party

Yesterday as I was enjoying my first day of everyone out of the house and was in the midst of my 80 lbs. party *bubble popping*

DD called me sobbing...she had just been laid-off (And might I just add...DON'T call your Mother during rush hour when you're normally supposed to be driving home sobbing so hard you can hardly talk...It gives us heart palpitations...I thought she'd been in a wreck). Poor kid…she was crushed. Unfortunately it’s a hard ‘life experience’ many of us have to learn sometime in our lives…cut-backs suck. Some days it's hard being the Mom...you just want to go through it for them and take away the pain.

I’ll be busy helping edit resumes and cover letters…and I’m back wearing that sandwich board sign on the corner for her; ‘Smart, Outgoing, Marketing and International Business Double-Major, Needs Work, Willing to Relocate (Mom and Dad will miss her at home…no, really)'.

It’s a gloomy day here…

I can relate to the wanting to go through it for them thing. My girls are 14 and 16 and always going through some drama. Sometimes kids can be so cruel to each other that I wish I could make my baby's pain and heartache go away... but I cant. All I can do is listen and sometimes cry with them... Telling them it will get better doesnt usually help. I guess it doesnt with me either when I'm hurting. It isnt always easy being a mom, huh?

BG, my 23 yr. old daughter, (also, double major degrees) has a job that will be coming to a end in 1 yr. I keep telling her to apply now for future employment, don't wait until you don't have a job to try and find one........she thinks she will walk into the perfect situation. Its frustrating. I do wish your daughter good luck, it certainly a tough time to find a job, but not impossible. I am keeping positive thoughts your way...

I am so sorry to hear that and I can imagine how you felt getting a sobbing call during rush hour. At least everyone is safe and healthy!

And take it from me, sometimes, getting laid off is actually a blessing. This is a tough economy and that sure isn't helping, but I was laid off at one point and found a new job for more money with better hours and way more interesting people to work with. I just needed that nudge that sometimes only the universe (God) can throw at you...

And you've still lost 80 pounds, too!

Thanks gals, lots of tears this week. I did do the 'this happened for a reason', but it didn't help. We're updating the resume today...
