I posted this as a thread, but I really want to post as a blog too. I am hoping that I'll get some responses!!!

okay guys, I am one week out of surgery as of today! I had my post op appt. yesterday and I've lost 13 lbs since my pre op.

My question is this: my doctor allowed me to move up to soft foods yesterday as tolerated.

So, this morning for breakfast at 7 a.m. I had a chocolate carnation instant breakfast.

Then, at 9:30 (just now) i was still hungry!!!! So, I went into the kitchen and had about 1/3 cup of cottage cheese with a half of a pear (no sugar added, of course!)

Now, i feel full.

I am hoping that I'll be okay until around 1 p.m. or so.

I just don't want to over eat. I mean, that's what got me here in the first place.

I have no restriction in my band. I won't get a fill until about 3 weeks.

Last night, I had about a 1/2 cup of food... mashed potatoes and squished peas (without the hull). I was still hungry an hour later... and then I ate about 1/4 cup of frozen yogurt.... STILL hungry about 30 mins later. SO, i had about a 1/3 cup of cereal with skim milk.

I woke up starving!!!! And that's when I decided to do the Carnation Instant Breakfast drink.

SO, what do you think????

Please, be brutally honest.

I do not want to screw this up. But, my doc keeps saying that i shouldn't be hungry. so, LAPBANDSTERS, I am begging for your opinions!

Im two weeks post op and i was having the same problem. Try not to drink your protein in the morning, thats when you should be eating. Cottage cheese is good. Try scrambled eggs or beans things that will stay with you for a long time. If you eat your protein in the morning you should be less hungry during the day. Good luck.

I am in the same situation. I am 2.5 weeks post op. I felt restriction until about 4-5 days ago. I am just trying to watch what I consume. I get a fill 1/14. Hopefully that will help. I wish I had more advice for you. Good luck.

The bulk of what you're eating is quick burning food (carbs) which is why you're not staying full. You should be eating things with more protein in them.

Eggs

Cheese

Greek Yogurt (less carbs and sugar and very high protein)

Sandwich/deli meats

Protein smoothies

Chicken Salad

Beans (refried/pinto/chili/doesn't matter)

Etc...

Protein is what keeps you full and you should have it at every meal. You should aim to get 60-70 grams of protein a day, in what you ate yesterday you had maybe 32 and that's being generous. The milk from the carnation instant breakfast with the lil' bit they put in there. 8 grams, from the cereal 8 grams, the cottage cheese 8 grams, fruits and veggies have minimal protein in it usually >1 gram of protein per serving, unless you're eating greens, etc, even then still low.

So to answer your question, no you're not eating "too much" but you are eating "too much" of the wrong thing. Protein first, then other stuff.

Hello All,

I am Ken Gibson and just about one week out from having my surgery done. I am on liquid diet, plus vitamins, and water, plus I add soup. My first appointment is in one more week (2wks). I appreciate your information about eating proper and maintaining. My surgery was done on 1-4-10. Any advice as to what a meal program should be at the 4 week mark. You may send advice to giby97@hotmail.com. Thank you
