Hello all,

I thought I would post this question even though it is not the most favorite subject to talk about....Throwing up!

I was wondering if it is normal to throw up regularly. I have noticed that some of you say that you are tired of throwing up. So I was wondering if you guys can tell me if you do or you dont or if it is normal or not.

Thank you!!

Throwing up is not a normal part of banding, however having the band makes it much more likely that this will happen if you're not careful. It's not really the same as 'throwing up' either as it's more like the food only comes up, sometimes just a mouthful (and no bile) and it's called a PB. Some banders never PB...me, I'm a slow learner so I've had my share of PB's but not often (always operator error- not chewing well enough or eating too fast). Any bander whose throwing up daily without it being 'operator error' is running the risk of a slip and they're too tight. -BG

What BG said... I'm 2 days shy of being 3 weeks post op and I've never thrown up, not even during the healing phase when everyone else talks about being nauseated, etc..

I've been stuck once and it was TOTALLY my OWN fault. I was 1.) eating something I shouldn't have been. 2.) Distracted and that old habit of just wolfing down food while working crept on me, because I was distracted. I didn't chew chew chew like I was supposed to and I took a bigger bite than I should have. It was stuck for about an hour or more. I felt like I wanted to throw up but even when I tried, nothing.

It's my humble opinion that alot of this is mind over matter - I do NOT like to throw up, it's one of those things for me I just ugh.. yeah anyways.. so I don't allow myself to, or ever really get the urge to either. Just once since being banded and again, TOTALLY *MY* FAULT, or as BG says "operator error".

So if you're eating right, chewing right, etc.. you shouldn't really have any problems unless it's a food your body can't tolerate. Even then though, I believe in mind over matter.

I was banded on Sept. 18th and I never "threw up" until I had my second fill at the first of December. But it was totally my fault and like the others said, it's because you don't chew enough or you take too big a bite or you are rushing to eat. I have had to really watch at times and make sure that I'm eating slower and chewing my food really well. It's hard to get used to at first because we are still in the mind set of eating faster and eating more food. So my advice to you is just be careful and chew really well. Good luck!
