Confused and Feeling Defeated.

Went to my surgeon yesterday for a check up. I am not suppose to be eating reg food-got banded Nov 17th,. I thought I could eat in moderation after 10 days. WRONG AGAIN. So far my journey with this band has sucked. I DON’T WANT TO EAT SOUP UNTIL JAN 4TH!! I AM STARVING! CAN ANYONE HEAR M?. I swear if I would have known that I would have to eat like this for 2 months I would never have spent the money. Simply put- If I could eat like this on my own and had the will power, I would not be 5-5 and 206pds. I wanted the bands to fill full faster, not to eat like a vegan! Please help me! I need advice and support. Why am I so resistant to doing this diet? How do all of you do it?

Every surgeon is different but from what I hear and read, after a few weeks you will switch to mushies and soft foods. And by Jan 4th you will switch to real food. This isn't a diet that is long lasting, nor is it a diet that is meant for weight loss, per se. It's to allow your stomach and your body to heal. If you eat solid food now you can cause a stitch to pull before your stomach has created the scar tissue that will allow the band to stay put. This "diet" is about healing.

It is rough, from what I've read. I am not banded yet and am sure this will be frustrating for me when I get there as well. But if you follow this then you will be in a great place to start getting that coveted restriction and therefore the weightloss. Hang in there - you can do this. When you are starving ask yourself why? Have you had enough protein? Is it head hunger? I think, from what I've observed, that this is a perfect time to be asking yourself the why's and what's behind how you are feeling. Work it out now, not later when it gets even harder.

Hang in there - you CAN do this!

I was 258 when I started my journey six months ago. It was very hard at first. I too said to myself "hello if i could NOT eat, i wouldnt need a band!" I am down 63 pounds and feel better than I have in many many years. I am only 5'3 and now am 195. You have the advantage of starting out much lighter. I was also private pay. It is hard no doubt. Not a magic bullit but it is worth every bit of it I promise. Tell yourself. No matter how hungry you are, nothing tastes as good as skinny will feel. Drink as much as you can it really helps. You'll be laughing about this in a year...really! It sucks right now but how fast or slow you lose weight and even the times you make mistakes will seem trivial when your weight is where you want it and your thoughts are on something more important that all the details of your intake! Good luck!

Didn't they tell you this was the way it would be? I went to months of dietician visits and the pre and post op diets were practically beat into me! Don't just eat soup, get protein shakes, they really do help to keep the hunger away. My surgeon had me drink 5 carnation instant breakfast with additional protein powder every day. It really helps

Two solid months of soup is a wee bit harsh in my opinion, but going back to regular eating but only in moderation isn't good either, especially only after 10 days. Your doctor isn't willing to let you go to some mushy stuff like cottage cheese? If not, you can try throwing some hardier soups like bean and bacon in the blender because they will do a better job of filling you up than tomoato.

Face it, there are some foods that will likely never sit well again because they're too hard to digest. I'd kill for a nice apple right now but I feel the pain just thinking of it.
