Hi all.. My name is Jerry and I had the LapBand procedure done on October 29th. I thought I could do this on my own and that support groups are for the weak. Well here I am asking for help. I thought getting this band would just make everything easier but I find myself still eating the wrong things and eating to much of it. Sometimes I wonder why I even gotten this procedure if my ways still havent changed.. Well dammit! I am here to tell all you that this is the time it going to change... No more of this.. ! Well I just needed to vent.. See ya around.

Hi jerry :cursing: I was banded on Nov 12th. Like you, I thought I would be doing this without a support group. I am used to being independent and doing things my own way. I quit other addictions like smoking and drinking on my own. The way I decided too. I was really surprised when I was trying to vent to some of the people around me and I felt like I was whining and misunderstood. Grrr. Kind of a blow to my pride at first but now I'm starting to like reading other peoples posts. And now I'm responding and doing a little blogging even. I don't know anything about you but I know that you can change. I hope you can stay positive through it. I personally feel like some days I have lost my dear friend food and sometime mourn the loss.Trying to keep my goals in mind to help drive me to success  Write me anytime if you want to share :crying:

Support groups are not for the weak. They are for the smart. Being strong is about making decisions that can keep you strong and talking about what you're experiencing is a good decision. Plus it's fun to look at pics of everyone transforming their bodies! I am scheduled for mine on Monday next. Can't wait!

Dude, I hear you loud and clear. I will be banded in January and my initial plan was that I can do this on my own. A. I realized that my friends have no idea what I'm going through and this is not theirs to bear and I would only end up getting my feelings hurt. B. My research shows that people that are more involved in the LB community (blogging, support groups, etc.) are more successful in their goals.

I have to admit that the first one made me sad, but the second one got me motivated. If this is what it takes to help me be successful, then by God, that's what I'm going to do.

I know you can too! Like Electra said, it isn't weak, it is smart.

Good luck!

Jerry!

Hope your having a better day buddy! I got banded Nov 17th. I actually joined this group 1 month before. I am glad I did! I was so lost. I too have these band habits. Eat too much, love fast food, and candy is my favorite! The other night, I thought to myself why? Why, did I do this, if I am not willing to work on my "head" hunger and depression. It works hand in hand. Small victories. I need this band to help me achieve my goal, but I also need to love myself and celebrate small victories. Its a balance that we all need to find.. and its hard. We can all do this together.

I agree that the support group is important. Even the most supportive friends and family must get tired of listening to me talk about my band. I find I want to talk about it all day - probably because I am always thinking about it and how happy I am with it. With the support group you can not only talk about it but find out how others are thinking. It's kind of a "band fix!"
