Bailed my LAP-BAND® Consult!

Early this morning I was on the computer and searched for my LAP-BAND® Surgeon's website to print out the patient information packet I needed to take to my appointment. The website had expired on the 14th on November. I sat there looking at the computer dazed. I was going to a Surgeon who had let his website expire??? This was my first Red Flag of the Day.

I decided to look up Dr. Hixon and see if there were any complaints filed against his medical license. There were no complaints yet he has 3+ malpractice suit he has paid. This was my Second Red Flag of the Day.

The only reason I went to the appointment was my Mom had an appointment at Emory University, and she wanted me to ride with her to Atlanta. I was so NOT going to go.

When we got to the Atlanta Medical Center, the area was run down, not well kept, not a hostipal I wanted to go to by choice. This was my Third Red Flag of the Day.

I walked into the Building, and was greeted by a Homeless Woman. Sitting with her Grocery Sacks, and empty coffee cup she was collecting change in. She was quite nice and I felt bad that I had nothing to give her.

The walls were poorly lit, the carpet were ragged and worn, the walls needs to be scrubbed and painted. When I got the Elevator, I said a Prayer because I truly was not sure we would survive the trip. When I arrived at my Floor, I got off looked for some direction to my Surgeon's office.

It was easily found, written in Permanent Black Maker on the wall. 440 to the Left. This was my Fourth Red Flag of the Day.

Shaken and traumatized from the trip up. I arrive at the office . I arrived in the office. They said they were just calling me. I looked down. yes I missed a call. They were calling me to tell me Dr. Hixon couldn't see me today he could reschedule for after the holidays. uhhhhhhhhh......... no thanks I will get my own.

Note: I did get New Surgeons, I signed up with Emory University Bariartic Center of Atlanta. My Info Seminar is Jan. 14th!~:)

That is so scary! Thank God you had all those signs to tell you to look for a surgeon elsewhere. You don't want your life in an incompetent surgeon's hands. Very important to research  So glad you found someone else!

Holy schnikies! That is insane - and you are very wise to be walking from that place. Everything happens for a reason - but I have to wonder why this doc even still has a clinic...

Poor guy...chuckle...I'm sure he means well...but I aint puttin my life in his hands...

Thank you Everyone! I am glad I walked away, too! I am glad I researched, and didn't stick my head in the sand like some people do.

Idswims, I don't think he has much business at all.

DocVooDoo...Good luck on your Journey ahead!

I had a similiar experience... I called that 1-800 number.. was all schedule and a week b4 surgery I met an attorney. (friend's new boyfriend) He actully did malpractices, so I gave him my info... he made a few phone calls and bam he gave me a history of the place... they were plastic surgeons at first and he had a seize and exist pending on them... with so many lawsuits for their plastic surgery they switched to lap band... he said they have a revolving door of drs. there... needless to say I cancelled and went with another dr. which he recommended.

Electra, I wish I would of thought to taken a pic of the Suite Number written with Sharpie! I think I was too traumatized at the time! Hilarious, Absolutely Hilarious!

Emily, I don't have a Consult scheduled yet. I'm going to the Seminar in January.

KDee, makes you really think twice doesn't it? I already ran checks on all the Surgeons of the Team at Emory. Praise God, they all have really great records. No malpractices to date at all. Unlike all the other Surgeons that were available to me. I am so glad I didn't give up, and keep researching. I can only pray they have good bedside manners, too. Time will tell.
