Went to a Mexican Resturant today with coworkers. Everything was going great. No Chips and Salsa for me. Even thought a made a wise choice with Tortilla Soup. THOUGHT is the key word. 10 or so bites into it I got the hiccups, and I thought I was going to lose it right there. Everyone continued there conversations while I was trying to be calm and not act like I was dying.

I have had this feeling before, but it usually passes in about 3 to 5 minutes. THIS WAS NOT PASSING.

I quietly excused myself to the bathroom. Still hoping that it would pass if I got up and walked. NO LUCK.

You get the picture. I will spare you the rest of the story.

QUESTION - I can not predict this at all. I thought I made a good choice in food. Maybe didn't chew enough. HOW DO YOU KNOW, or better yet HOW DO I AVOID THAT UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE FROM HAPPENING EVER AGAIN AS LONG AS I LIVE?????

Sad part is, I have not even had my first fill yet. That comes tomorrow.

I know the feeling... it's happen to my several times. Now when I enter a resturant I'm always scoping out where the bathrooms are. All I know my band can be moody. Yesterday, I ate some green beans w/chicken at a chinese resturant... band didn't like it. Later in the evening I ate a bean and cheese burrito, was only goint to eat the inside, but tried a few bites of the tortilla and I guess my band like it. Go figure.

Well sometimes you can even do it with foods you did not have issues with before, so no way to really tell. Mahi Mahi did it for me and I use to eat it before I hit my sweet spot! *sigh* I sure hope you feel better!

I hear you and I want you to know this has happened to many of us on this site... You are not alone. I did not make it out of the table and did it into a cloth napkin to the horror of the others around me. If I get the hiccups it is a sure sign to stop and think about where the rest room is. I have gotten to know my body signs but it takes some time to figure it out. Everyone is different. I never sit on the inside ever now.

Best wishes and hope it all works out for you. imaluckydog

Well, keep in mind that this has only happened to me once (the hiccups that is). Occasionally when I eat something and for whatever reason it is not chewed well enough or whatever, I will get the sensation that the food is "stuck" as it is going down. This is not pleasant. Most of the time it will pass in a few minutes. No vomitng or anything. Yesterday, I had that sensation accompanied with the hiccups. When I went to the restroom it finally just came up.

After that everything was fine. I did not really feel like eating anymore (obviously) but I was just so happy that tightness was gone. I had a protein shake about an hour later to make sure that I got some protein.

Hope that answers your questions. I am still a newbie at this. If you are like me, I scan all of these blogs for helpful information.

Good Luck
