Not only am I at a 9-10 on the pain scale, but I have a dollar size dark purple bruise under my incision. Every time I move, every time I reach... ow.

So, my surgical nurse called to check on me, and when I told her how I felt, she informed me that the intense pain was not normal and to contact Dr. Hollis immediately. I called and got Hollis's NP. The NP told me that, since the Lortab Elixar wasn't making a dent, I should try using a heating pad and taking Advil every six hours.

Seriously? Heating pad and Advil for pain that makes me wish I'd decided to stay fat??

And do they even read the warning label, because I do. Know what it says... may cause stomach bleeding. Anyone else seeing the problem?

I don't know.. I'm walking, I'm moving... not sleeping, but otherwise doing what I'm doing what I'm supposed to do. The gas pain is getting better, which is good.

The bruises are a little scary. Just the look of the dark purple and the scares... it made my mom physically ill to look at. I can't wait until that part goes away. And the super glue stuff they put Humpty Dumpty back togther again is a little scary. Stitches I'm ok with...but they super glued me! It just looks WEIRD.

In fact, I just took my first shower since the surgery and was super nervous about rubbing the glue off by accident. Let me tell you, your skin that has been sliced 2" pushed together and super glued back together feels incredibly weird!

So now, I'm sitting here, tired as heck, with a cat making muffins on my leg because my stomach is strickly off limits, and I'm waiting for the heating pad and Advil to make a difference.

oh my, when was your surgery? Mine was 10/19, and the first several days were agony. I felt as if I had been sawed in two, and put back together again. However - hang in there. The heating pad works wonders.

I will keep you in my thoughts!

My surgery was Wednesday, 10.28.09. I'm on my 3rd day post-op. And yes, cut in half is the feeling... but you're right. Despite my cynacism, heating pads and Advil are helping considerably.

wow! I have to say, I am 4 days post op today and I thought I was just unlucky with my pain level as I have chronic pelvic pain with a history of pelvic adhesions and have had many abdominal surgeries as a result. I thought my pain being as bad as it was the first few days was more than the average client's. By your post I see that it wasn't. That sawed in half description was pretty accurate and to make thing worse my surgeons office prescribed me Vicodin pills to be crushed and taken in a small amount of applesauce! That was just CRUEL! I tried once out of desperation and wound up heaving, which made me feel sawed a 2nd time! Needless to say, I spent the first 30 hours after surgery without pain meds! THAT WAS AWFUL! HOWEVER, as I said today is day 4 and I am beginning to feel much better each day and have put a call in to my Dr to see if I can move on to full liquids as opposed to clear. I have not been nauseated at all and am taking walks down the block. HOT SHOWERS are AMAZING! Good luck and I have a number of friends that have been banded and swear by it and are looking and feeling great!

You'll start feeling better soon. The super glue is actually a good way to prevent infection from getting in...I had it. The glue will start dropping off soon as you heal. Hang in there. -BG

It really does get better with each passing day, and around day 4, that sawed in two feeling starts to go away...

The incisions will heal nicely - I still have some steri-strips clinging, and I am 11 days post op! Don't be afraid of the shower - it's all good!

It was a good three weeks before I felt better. I also had purple sores around each incision, they were also sore for a long time and ugly too. For me the one under my Bra in the front was the worst. I am not able to find where the holes were now. I remember being swollen for a long time and that did not feel good either. YES it will get better but for me it did take a long time. Best wishes and feel better soon. I am down 60+ pounds since June 29. Take care imaluckydog
