Well I defeated my fear, I am getting lap banded on Oct 27, 09. I have done more research on teh internet than I have ever done before, read about all these new treatments, pills, balloons and the new Mini Gastric Bypass. decided with the lap band. I have listened a lot on utube about how the band failed and how these whole bunch of people got the Mini Gastric Bypass and if you have comments on that surgery or know of failtures let me know, because I have only one negative about that surgery. I go on a 800 cal preop on Tomorrow that really SUCKS!!!!! I am self pay for teh surgery at 16800, so my body better not reject. My weight is a concern and with teh rising stigma against people who are overweight I want the surgery and also for my health and my children. I was a self pay too, however I left the country and saved a ton of money. I paid 8 for my surgery, travel and have paid another 1200 for fills. My surgeon was Dr. Ortiz. He is on youtube as well. Great surgeon and is very well known. He runs the Obestity Control Center! Love that place and his staff.

I also love being banded, it was tough until I reached a good level of restriction, but now I am very pleased! Congrats on your choice, and over coming your fear!

Remember the band is a tool not a magic wand. I was banded 7/2/09 and have lost 33#s. I did not have to do a preop diet. I struggle everyday not to eat the "wrong" things, the band will/or may not change that desire. The onus is on you to make good choices. I could easily eat the junk and not be successful. The bottom line is you have to make good choices and follow the band "rules". I wish you luck!

I hate hearing about the band is a tool and not "magic". that is soooo depressing, no offence to your comment. I just want to work hard and get somewhere this time. I am ready for a change and a change it will be.

If you are truly ready for change, and absolutely ready to work hard, then please don't find the idea of a band as merely a tool, but embrace it because it really is just that. If you aren't ready to change your lifestyle along with the band -- then there are ways to get around it and you may not be as happy with the results.
