I have been on my pre-op Liquid diet for a wk now n am scheduled for surgery next Friday and getting very nervous.

I have been having a little difficulty with the liquid diet n am getting tired of drinking this slim fast. For the most part I am doing pretty good but will find myslef nibbling on a cracker or something...no major meals just a nibble here n a nibble there. For instance I made a huge pot of chicken soup with veggies n took all my broth but snuck in a couple of piece of veggie n chicken....it has been so hard.

I guess I am looking for more encouragement as well as ideas of how to spice up these slim fast drinks as well as what else I can do for the liquid n then what have others done for the post op meals etc...I need ideas n suggestions......PLEASE HELP!

you dont have to worry too much about post op... you wont (or i should say I WASNT) hungry at all. water, tea, crystal lite, watered down juice and jello was it for the first 4 days. after that anything you could suck up a straw was what my doctor ordered. its been two weeks since i was banded and now that the bloating has gone down, i feel like i can eat more things. i like creamed soups (especially creamy chicken) scrambled eggs (although i hear a lot of people cant tolerate eggs for some reason), cheese (well chewed or cottage cheese), yogurt or pudding once a day, and veggie soups (where the veggies are cooked really soft). just remember to listen to your body! when you feel the tightness in your chest, STOP! if you hiccup, it means you ate too fast. GOOD LUCK!

Take a look at voiceomt2002 blog. She posted lots of great recipes. I made the soups (broth and creamed soups) and other mushie recipes as well...they saved me. I didn't have a specific pre-op diet to follow, but like Connie said, you won't be hungry post-op for weeks, so there's something to look forward to!

You wouldn't be normal if you weren't nervous about the banding. Keep posting and you'll do great! Best wishes! -BG

PS- If you're allowed SF popsicles GET THEM!!! They even come in great tropical flavors now. They helped me with getting in that 'crunchy' something solid craving.
