Dilated Lap Band

I've had my lab band for approximately 2 years I went from a size 1x to a size 10 and was still losing. I went in for an adjustment and was informed that my band had dilated. My band was emptied and I will be consulting with my doctor on the 25th. He mentioned gastric bypass or repairing the band. I 've gained 13 lbs since my band was emptied. I'm very distrught over this and I'm not sure which direction to take. Gastric bypass seem so extreme with the cutting and re-routing of this and that. I've observed several co-workers with the gastric bypass they lose the weight quick and look great. But again I'm concerned about drastic procedure.:tongue_smilie:

Can someone share a similar experience or just their opinion on the matter.

Hi, I am with you. I am scheduled to have the gastric by pass on the 5th of October, I was going to have the lap band, but I worry about something going wrong. I know that they mess with your insides and all,but in the long run,. you will adjust and know that you can only eat certain things and only so much.. It is drastic, but if we are serious then I thnk this would worth it. The more I talk to myself the more courage I have. I am a big chicken

I had my band placed on Feb 11, 2009 and so far I've lost just over 100 lbs; I'm at my goal.

That said... I think that if I had to lose my band I'm pretty sure I'd have similar problems with gaining the weight back. I think that what I would be investigating would be having (if necessary) a gastric sleeve done when / as soon as possible after the removal of the band.

Good luck to you!

I would have to agree with dare301bx. If another procedure is necessary for you....I would consider the gastric sleeve. I am scheduled for the operation on October 8th and am so excited about it. This surgery eliminates the problems associated with band such as food getting stuck. Plus, you avoid the vitamin deficiencies and dumping associated with gastric bypass. My surgeon tells me the results they are getting with the sleeve are incredible...same loss as with the bypass...1/2 to 1 lb per day. In addition, the part of the stomach that generates the hormone which creates hunger is the part that is removed. I am nervous and anxious all at the same time, but I am ready to live again!
