Hello everyone,

I went one of my pre-op "classes" yesterday and I totally got scared after listening to the women in my group. Some women are getting the Gastric Bypass and the others the Lap Band. Some of them said that they know people that have horrible pain in they're stomach's all the time after having the Lap Band Surgery. Is that normal? They were also talking about how most of the people who have the Lap Band wish they did the Gastric Bypass. Is this true?

I was upset on the way home because my excitement turned to fear, but then I thought that maybe I could ask my friends here. I would appreciate as many responses, good or bad. I really want to know what I am getting myself into.

Thanks Alot!

Don't fear, losing weight is near! No, pain is not normal! No, I don't want to switch to bypass, and I don't know anyone who wants that. You will do great!!!!

I never wanted the bypass, nor do I want it now. The lapband is not that difficult if you follow the rules. I was up and about in a day. Had my surgery on Monday, went to a job interview on Wednesday, so what does that tell you. Don't be scared!!! be excited!!! Congratulations on your best decision of your life!!!

I had my lap band 7 years ago I weighed 350 pounds. I lost 160 pounds in 1 1/2 years. My band slipped about 3 years out and had to have that fixed by surgery. I have gained 60 pounds in the last 2 1/2 years. I had to have all the fluid out of my band due to reflux. I am not sorry at all for getting the lap band. My friend got the bypass and has had a hard time with also. I need to get back into using the tool that I have (lap band) and get this 60 pounds off of me.

Well, my sister had Gastric By Pass 9 years ago. She was 350 pounds got down to about 175 got married, pregnant, baby boy, gained 50 plus back and now is on her way down again using WW. She feels and looks great. She never regrets having surgery it changed her life. She is Happy and healthy. I on the other hand am the older sister and got banded this past June 29. I know I have lost 50 pounds already and it has only been two months. I eat small to be small. I love working with my band. Best thing I have ever done for myself. I am happy and healthy too. Make your choice and we will be here to support you. ;-) Best wishes. imaluckydog Kathy

I had my surgery 6 months ago and would never regret it. I am off of my diabetes meds, high blood pressure, acid reflux, asthma meds. I am down 40 pounds. I only have about 10-15 more to go and it's going slower now. It's a great tool to have. I am so happy I did it..Good Luck, Carapony Meryl

Hi...well I had my LB on 6-5-09 I have lost 30 pds...however, if I were to do it again I would take my regular MD's advice and have the gastric bypass...just cause I think it would be easier now and in the long run...but, having had the LB...I do experience stomach pain, right under my left rib cage...hurts to breath in. But, I can handle it. I know it's not life threatening and after time will disapate. I lilke what "imaluckydog" said...she eats small to be small...I would like to incorporate that into my life.

I can tell you that for me, it took about a solid 10 days to get back into the basics of things...not the swing of things..that took more like 20 days. Read my blogs...it's all there.

What ever you decide good luck to you...I hope you get the desired results you are looking for. Oh, PS....I paid outright for my surgery....I had no insurance coverage for this..if I would of gone with gastric the insurance may have covered it..... Just so you know...
