Acid Reflux Nightmares

I have been having some pretty bad acid reflux, which I did not suffer from to this extent prior to surgery. I have already gone for 2 unfills. (1 cc in total). I am at 4 in an 11 cc band and was up to 6 at one point.

When I go to bed, even when I don't eat/drink for 3 hours before bed, I fall asleep only to be awoken by vomit/reflex coming up into my throat and a coughing fit ensues. I then vomit and am able to go back to sleep. (Which is propped up on 3 pillows.)

During the day, I sometimes feel like a dragon. I feel heat or a sour stomach. I just want to know if this is happening to anyone else and how restricted they are.

The trouble is that I can eat, so I don't think my band is over filled, but who knows. Is this just trial and error? I had my surgery in March and so in a couple of weeks, it will be 6 months. Any ideas/feedback would be great.

(Should I be worried about esophageal cancer? Or am I just being paranoid.)

Yes, this needs to be treated or you can end up damaging your pouch or worse. My doc prescribed Nexium (antacid) and although I've only had to take it a few times since banding I've read some here who are on something daily. Reflux can also be a sign that you are too tight so discuss your symptoms and diet/restriction with your doc. Good luck! -BG

I'm having the same problem althouht I haven't been able to get anything up because I haven't eaten anything. I don't think I'm too tight and this is very frustrating.

Thanks for the advice. I went to the Dr. and it turns out my band may have been placed a bit too high and so if adding more fluid after the complete deflation doesn't work after 2 weeks, there may need to be a "revision". Yikes.

UGH!
