So, since my referral from my doctor, I have already received and information packet in the mail with my orientation date. It will be at the end of August, that's only in 2 weeks! I feel like things are moving faster than I thought. I am worried most about my heart rate and passing the physc portion. I mean what do they want to hear? I know the truth but then I know they could easily try to say someone is not ready mentally! I mean of course you have an eating disorder if you are over weight. I feel like there are alot of obsticales to get past first before I can trully feel like I am going to have the surgery. I am also scared of going under with such a high heart rate, an average of 90-100 bpm when at rest. I know they will be safe but at the same time it will suck if they do not want to operate on me  has anyone had this done with high blood pressure and heart rate? I guess we'll see how things go after orientation. Any adive?

Hi,I just had my surgery last week and I have High Blood pressure & a fast pulse - mine was always 90 - 100 at rest. I went to go see a cardiologist because I wanted to be sure I was going to make it through the surgery. Most of the patients have other health issues like blood pressure, diabetes, fast pulse. What you want to make sure is that you are comfortable with what they are going to do - it is your body. I wanted to see a cardiologist because I wanted to make sure I was OK enough - they never requested it.

Let me know if you have any questions that I can answer.

Thank you BrooklynGirl, It is a very big decision, but I feel like I need this change in my life. I know the death rate is around 1% but it is always a fear with any surgery, especially a voluntary one!

Good luck to you CarStar! I too had a very very high heart rate and did fine. Trust me the medical staff would not take any chances if they didn't think it could be done safely. I wouldn't worry too much about the psyc evaluation. Make sure this surgery is about YOU - not because your significant other would like a thinner person or people will "like" you better if you were thinner, it has to be a decision you are making for You and only YOU! That is what they are looking for, but my recommendation would be to be completely honest. If you are not ready right now psycologically, I am confident they will work with you to get ready both physically and emotionally. I wish you the very best.

I think the psych part is to see if you are realistic about the whole thing. No magic weight loss, people wont love you more, and no, you wont have a unicorn show up in the back yard because youre skinny...good luck!!
