Hi,

I am about a week and a half post op, had Lapband surgery on August 3rd, 2009. I am having a hard time getting my protein and liquid in. I was suppose to be on liquid for 2 weeks, but had to call the Doctor yesterday for help. I got “permission” to switch to the mushy/pureed foods early to try to get more protein into my body. I can’t stand shakes or anything sweeten with fake flavors and broth is getting hard to keep down too.

After speaking to the Doctor I opened a can of fat free refried beans. They really seem so good that I’m thinking it’s really bad! I hate that I couldn’t stay on track and had to switch to pureed too early! I feel like I am screwing this up and it’s only been a week.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep on track? Hunger is not the issue at all, I really don't feel hungry. Protein intake is my biggest issue and protein shakes and powders are just too nasty to stomach. I almost feel like I’d rather starve than have another nasty protein shake. I have tons and tons of different flavors and brands of drinks and "non-flavored" powders that I’ve tried and not one of them I can drink... (even the thought of them makes me cringe). I really have tried hard to drink them but it's getting to the point where I am risking throwing up and causing more damage.

Any suggestions? I just finished the other ½ can of fat free refried beans I opened yesterday and feel like the biggest cheater!

I mixed my non flavored protein mix with orange juice. I use a lot of ice in my blender. All so I use egg beaters, they are mostly egg whites and the whites is the protein. My friend take 3 egg whites and one whole and scramble them together. I found that the colder the drink the easier the protein is to get down. My Dr. suggested eating baby food.

Hope it get better. good luck

I started mushies 4 days before I was suppose to. Like you, I couldn't take the shakes, broth, anything remotely sweet any longer. I was an emotional wreck. Started mushies very slowily and so far no problems that I know of. Just go slow and introduce one new food at a time. You'll be great! Oh, by the way, I can actually stand my shakes now. Not enjoy them but tolerate them. I still don't have any cravings for anything sweet. Even Chrystal Lite makes me gag. Hope that keep up! LOL

I understand what you mean about the protein shakes. I hate them too. I have been drinking the protein shots from Walmart. Each shot is 26 grams of protein. They are very sweet and I don't like them either, but I'm done after about 8 seconds. I just go on and try to drink at least one per day. I'm in love with my hair, so I'm trying to keep it. Also, GNC and other heath food stores sale the shots too. They have shots that are about 46 g of protein. I have not tried those yet since they cost more.
