I am a 25 year old, female. I had my surgery Wed., Aug. 5th. I'm doing well. I've already lost about 12 lbs. I was actually not nervous at all on my surgery day. I used to get really nervous and cry when I had surgery in the past. I think I was just ready to get it over with. The worst was the IV because I hate needles. When I woke up, I had a little bit of a tough time coming out of the anesthesia. My chest felt heavy like a couldn't breath. The nurse gave me oxygen in my nose after I had been complaining (I tend to be irritated or emotional coming out of it). I didn't like the smell of the new plastic so I ripped it out and she then put it in my already very dry mouth and I ripped it out again. My mouth, as I said, was very dry and my throat really hurt. Other than that I felt abdominal pressure and discomfort but that was about the extent of my pain. The worst was getting the xray the next day. The first thing I got to drink was a nasty drink for the xray and a lot of it. It was awful. I had to stand for a long time because they couldn't get a good xray and also made me lay on my side which was very painful. They tried to make me drink out of a straw which I refused because the surgeon ordered me not to due to increased gas and bend my left arm to drink which I also refused because the nurses told me not to because that is where my IV was not to mention it was painful. They had to get a guy to hold the cup above me and give me sips. Sorry I guess I'm difficult. They also put me on a table that flips you from a laying down to standing position. I felt like I was going to fall and almost did. I was not happy with the radiology dept. to say the least. I started to walk a good bit in the hosp. I got to go home the next day after my surg., Thurs., after I could prove I could drink liquids. I have been home since and doing pretty well already. I've been walking a good bit, have already showered a couple of times, and am anxious to move to the pureed diet on Tuesday. The liquid diet gets old after a while. It's hard being down and a lil boring but visitors, movies, reading materials, internet, etc. have been helpful.

It's over!!! Congratulations. The recovery is so much better at home. I just hated the hospital. I had a good hospital experience but I felt so much better when I got into my own bed. The first week is a bummer not going to lie, it really does get better. Just follow all the rules and I'd say you will be up and around in no time. Best wishes. imaluckydog

Thank you! You will do great. It's not that bad, honestly. I actually wasn't nervous except for the IV. It's just getting to the point where they put you under and before you know it, it's over and so relieving. I'm sure you're feeling like you just want to get it over with. That's how I felt. Good luck!

Thank you! I agree it was much better to be at home. I'm now 1 week post op and am doing pretty well. I was getting sick of the liquid diet and got to start purees today. I was actually excited, yay! I'm going to attempt my first walk outdoors tonight. We'll see how it goes. Thanks again!

Thank you! Congrats to you as well. Our surgeries were very close. I'm now a week post op. Got to start purees today and was actually excited. Anything is better than the liquid diet. I'm actually not too sore anymore, just a little bit. I'm healing well. Haven't done much excercise yet except walking around the house, straightening up, and grocery shopping. I plan to go for at least a 30 min walk tonight. We'll see how it goes. How are you feeling now?

Hey, don't worry. I've been there too. I have been depressed off and on since my surgery and have wondered if I too made the right decision. I think this is normal when you go through anything major in life. It will get better, honestly. I am a week post op now. I'm trying to get used to the strict diet and it is hard, but I'm at least feeling better. I have my moments were I'm so happy I did it and moments where well, like you said a little unsure/depressed/regretful. The one good thing about this surgery is that is reversible. Even though it is somewhat major. It isn't permanent. So maybe if you're still feeling this way in the future, you can decide to have it removed. I hope you are feeling better, good luck to you. The best thing to do is talk about things, whether it be on here, with family, or friends. I hope this helps.

Lol, yes laughing, coughing, sneezing is quite painful after at first. I kept getting mad at family/friends for making me laugh because it hurt so bad. So, not being a barrel of laughs is a good thing. I'm now 1 week post op. I just started my pureed diet today and was actually excited. I too was eating protein shakes, popsicles, jello, liquified soup, water, crystal light, etc. I was happy for a change.

Thank you! Congrats to you as well. I'm very glad my surgery is over too. I couldn't wait to get it over with. Things do kind of go in slow motion when you have to eat little meals frequently throughout the day. Congrats on the weight loss! I don't see my dr. until 2 weeks post op. I'm 1 week now. I got to start my pureed diet today with my surgeons okay. I was actually excited, yay! On my liquied diet, I had been eating protein shakes (Myolean protein powder) Choc. and strawberry. I also ate liquified low fat chicken and veggie soup, sugar free jello and popsicles, water, and crystal light. This is what the dietition at the hospital recommended. Good luck to you as well!
