Hi Everyone - I'm getting banded on 8/24 and I must admit I'm really scared. I had a really bad surgical experience in the past - almost died , so this goes to show you how much I really want this. It's a little hard though - husband and sons, daughter-in-law, family members are all thin. Glad I found this site cause as much as they all love me - I'm not sure that they can really understand all I'm in for. I've got about 100 lbs. to loose and fear failure - just like all the past diets. Plus people can be a little tough - told a girl at work about my upcoming surgery - she said "oh yea, I know someone that did that - it didn't work" another girl said "well my husband and I looked into it - but you only loose weight right at first because you are on liquids" Whew - I need some serious positive feed back , so bring it on bandsters! I really want to succeed.:thumbup: Want2bligter!

hey im scheduled for surgery tomorrow 8/7... I have about 70 lbs to lose.. people have said the same crap to me... its so frustrating when all you want is to hear positive things... well i know someone who had it and is doing fabulous... it was life changing for her. I hope we have the same results.. I just discovered the chat room which is great because you can speak to real people who are pre and post op. Good luck to you and steer clear of the negativity... Think happy thoughts lol

Best of luck to you. You will run into people that don't support you. In the very beginning my own husband didn't, he gave me the "taking the easy way out" attitude. I did it anyway. I was banded on June 16th and I've lost 30 pounds. The best thing to remember is to stop eating when you're satisfied. Not when you're full or after the food is all gone. Stop when you're satisfied. I have about 100 pounds to lose as well and I'm well on my way.

As far as the people with the negative attitudes, piss on them is what I say. The only person in your life you have to answer to is yourself. As long as you're doing this for the right reasons everyone else will eventually follow suit. My husband supports this now. Now that he's seen how much better I look and feel about myself he's come around a lot. He likes having a hotter wife. :thumbup: You're husband will too.

Thanks guys! I feel a little better - I guess I still get amazed that people are just so negative. I had my pre-op testing and spoke to the nurses and the anest. and feel better about the surgery itself. How long will it be before I can start lifting my grandchildren again - they are only 1,3 and 5 and I know that I am going to have a hard time not catering to them!
