Well, hello and welcome to my first blog ever. I got lap band July 20th, about 3 weeks ago in Monterrey, MX by Dr. Zapata. It was a very good experience and I do recommend Monterrey for such precedures. The hospital was exceptionally nice and I had the most attentive medical care that I have experienced. It was better than I expect I would have received in the US.

Now that the band is in and I am trying to return to my normal rutine I do find it difficult to manage my eating. I am hypoglycemic and at times my need for food is critical. When I have low blood sugar my ability to make good decisions is diminised from the lack of energy to my brain, hence I eat quickly on whatever is easy to find - usually a bready carb of some type. Now that I have lap band I get clogged up and throw up each and every time. If anyone has any recommendations on this please let me know. When I am not having low blood suger I am making wise food choices and sticking to my food plan. I have lost 20 lbs now and I do plan on posting pictures that show the progression toward my goal weight of 170. My preop weight was 266. I look forward to all the health benefits of not being obese as well as the ability to be more active with my son and the additional life benefits with my wife. Fat people really are limited in every way. This will be such a liberation from a lifetime of limitations. It almost makes you feel unworthy when your family or friends will not be enjoying the same freedom, but everyone must make their own choices. I have chosen to start a new journey toward health and energy. God be with me, because it is a long road...

Hi, You had surgery on my first surgery date I wanted July 20 so bad. It seemed it would take forever to get here. I had finished all my pre op work in early June and got a call on a Friday to see if I wanted to have my surgery on that next Monday? I was like Hell Yes I am sick of waiting around. June 29th came and went and I am now banded for a little over a month or so. Got my first fill 1 week ago and have been having problems at every meal. I eat to fast choose the wrong foods and seem to have forgotten all I taught about chew, chew, chew to beat the band. I do keep Greek Yogurt with honey or fruit on hand it is smooth and goes down easily. When I am starving. It is usually head hunger. With God's help I hope I can make better choices tomorrow. Best wishes on your journey. imaluckydog

Thank you, it is good to know I am not the only one that is having such a problem getting the food down. How did you know when to get the fill? I was told to get one between one month and 6 weeks but other people have said to wait until you stop losing weight.

Hi JJ, I was banded on June 29th and it was July 29th One Month to the day that I got my first fill. I was ok for about 4 days after the fill which was 2 cc's I had 2 cc's when the band was put in. That is the way my Dr. does things. I have a total of 4 cc's now and I have a lot of fullness all the time. I need to eat at regular times and I can only get in a small amount of food in before I feel opp's I have eaten toooooo much, I go real slow. Foods I was able to eat before I can not now after the fill they just do not sit right or go down. I have had a few uncomfortable days I must say. We had lobster for dinner the other night. I love lobster. I use to eat 6 tails and now I can only eat 2 and on the last bite of the second tail I was like OPPPPP's and I was in pain for 4 hours it is not a good feeling to have. I am learning to eat small to be small. I have lost 47 pounds since surgery and I weigh in on August 12 when I meet with my Nutritionist. I do not own a scale because I would be on it all day. I just need to remind myself to chew, chew, chew to beat the band and get the protein in first, thanks for listening. imaluckydog

If you were banded on the 20 any time from Aug 20 and after should be your first fill follow your Dr.orders. My Dr. office made all the follow up appointments for me because it often harder to get a fill apt.

Hi Jon,

I had by surgery 9/8/08. I've lost 78.5lbs so far, but I have more to loose than you do... Anyway, I try to make sure that I have good food choices available for those moments when i feel like I'm starving. I like to have nonfat yogurt on hand or jello. In a pinch, I'll have a spoon of peanut butter just to take the edge off. Keep up the good work.
