Odd Pains

I know this is my second post today, but I just feel like posting again I guess. Hope you all don't mind.

Experiencing some odd pains today. When I take a deep breath it hurts on my left side right under my rib cage (where I'm pretty sure my band is). I called the doc and spoke to the nurse, she said it's totally normal. Especially since I'm still less than a week out. Tomorrow will be one week. She said that it could be anything from gas to the body wondering what the heck this foreign object is that it needs to get used to. Which I'm sure is quite true. It's not a constant pain so I know it's not something that warrants an emergency three hour drive to the doc. Thank goodness, that would suck.

Also I was drinking a glass of milk a little bit ago and got a really sharp pain in my chest. No PB's or sliming, just a sharp pain. Maybe from drinking too fast. I was wanting to know if some of you guys that are reading this and have been banded have experienced some of these things shortly after your banding or not. I'd appreciate all the input I can get.

Even though I trust the doctors office with all that I have and most of them have either been banded or had gastric, I want to see what some of you guys feel about it.

Please reply and let me know. I'll be checking back tonight before I go to bed (whenever that will be, took a rather long nap today) to see what kind of input I got.

Hope you all had a good day.

Tomorrow will be one week for me as well. Haha!

I am totally with you. I have the wierdest pains after drinking something. The conclusion that I have come to is that you really have to sip slow. Even then, I still get this uncomfortable feeling. It's not constant, but it is quite uncomfortable.

Did you say your port is on the left side?

I thought that it should be, but mine is on the right side of my belly button. WIERD!!

When your drink too fast just post-op you will get a "sharp" or "uncomfortable" feeling in your chest...it's because the area where the band was put is very sore and swollen right now. They cauterize (sp?) some of the fat and tissue around the stomach to get it placed and you have the stitches on your stomach holding it that haven't healed, so you can see that any stretching right above the band is going to hurt some. I had to sip all day to get in fluids in tiny amounts.

The breathing in and having pain is something that I did not immediately have, but started for me 5 days later. It was VERY sharp and I had a sudden onset. They sent me to the ER to check for a blood clot in the lung (long story-didn't have one). I think some pain upon breathing is just moving the band and causing pain (like the above), but watch for any major changes and keep your doc posted.

Best Wishes! -BG

Make sure you drink in 2 oz. sips right now while you are healing. You may be sucking in air also when you drink which can cause some pain. Also, try rolling/rocking/walking to get the gas pains to move on out. Sounds like you are doing awesome!
