I know! I find if I mix the chocolate with about 4oz of milk it's still super strong but will go down...the more you mix it in the more you have to choke down you know? I also have some vanilla and puree some strawberries and ice with a splash of juice or milk and it's tolerable. The vanilla also mixes in well with my coffee in the mornings...hope this helps!

I haven't seen a 'non flavored' one that got very good reviews yet. I liked the EAS Advantedge (low carb) and the Atkins (both chocolate flavors) premade shakes (WalMart and Target). As soon as you're allowed something thicker I also bought the Isopure Alpine Punch powder (I've heard some of their other flavors are good too) at GNC; much higher protein than the others but it does have that thicker protein texture...I only like it with milk and lots of fruit blended in (I add a banana and berries).

Don't worry as much at this initial stage about getting all the protein as just getting the full amount of liquids so you don't get dehydrated. Blended soups are another good choice. Good luck!

I have found that there's a big difference in taste from one brand to another. I like chocolate designer whey powder and I mix 1 scoop for 8oz of skim milk (this is what the dietician recommended) and if you need a premade drink I found that Muscle Milk isn't all that bad. I've also used EAS double chocolate or strawberry but I dilute it with skim milk and much like BG I add a banana. I find the premade drinks to be a bit chalky so if I can I will add skim milk. I hope this helps Good Luck.

My Dr. recommends Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast. It does not have as much Protein as the protein powders, (mixed with skim milk it has 14 grams) but he allows his patients to drink that twice a day as long as we use another higher protein drink mix once a day. The other one I used was "Unjury" unflavored. It has a slight gritty texture, but is bearable if you blend it with milk, lowfat frozen yogurt, and fruit or a TBS of peanut butter. Good Luck!
