Weekends and Night Snacking

Week 1 on my high protein low carb eating plan and exercising 6 days a week. I had been having really bad issues with being extremely hungry at night so I told myself this past week i was going to work on kicking that to the curb. I ate dinner a little later one night that worked, I took a 1/2 protein shot one night and that worked and then I cleaned a few nights and kept myself busy by doing my nails and that also worked. All week I didn't snack or eat crazy stuff after the girls went down. So problem being worked on and I think solved. Thank you to all who responded to my post on the forum your suggestions and comments helped ALOT. Now also my weekends are horrible my husband is home wants to go out to eat all weekend and weekends sabotage my hardwork from the week so this weekend If we went out I really thought hard about what I was ordering and tried to order healthy all the time. We ate out 3 x's first time was Wendy's so I got a grilled chicken wrap and side salad, 2nd was Chili's and I got a low calorie meal and replaced my rice with brocolli so I had chicken , black beans and Broccoli, the 3rd time was the hardest - Popeyes- I took the skin off the chicken and heated up my left over black beans from the previous night. I did have a biscuit but I made sure to work out after dinner so I could burn some calories. All in all it was the BEST weekend I have had so far!!!! I even made cinnamon buns for my girls on Saturday morning and didn't have any. I figure I am going to have to cook stuff I can't have and what a better time to start working on controlling myself from eating it but now. So all my hardwork paid off and I was down 5.2 lbs this morning. I was so excited to see it working and I also feel great, more energized and alive. I can always start doing the healthy things but some where down the line i always fall off and gain it all back. This time knowing my Sleeve is just around the corner 42 days to be exact to stop that from happening has me smiling , I can see myself healthy again!!! Can't wait.

Under 300 yahoo! I did it!

Well I have broken the seal and am now down to 297. Never to see 300 again!! Thank you everyone who motivated me and commented. It helps a lot to keep me on track. I have continued walking and am working on 3 miles 5 days a week this week. I almost had it yesterday but I got down poured on and had to get a ride home. Boo!!! I am going to attempt it again today. I am having some doubts today about having surgery. I found myself thinking I can do this w/out surgery I am doing it now. But then I remember that I will do this for a few months drop weight and then BAM fall off . This is why I need this surgery!!! I need the sleeve to get over that hump and not fall. I am guessing that a lot of people have doubts before surgery. I am 27 days away from surgery and still can't believe how fast the time is going by.

STUCK! AHHHH

I have been stuck at 300 lbs since the 7th of June and I am so frustrated. I have been walking alot and even went for a bike ride over the weekend. I know I had my period last week but come on!!! My official weigh in date is Friday morning so we shall see then. I have never wanted to see 299 so bad in my life. I do feel a difference in my clothes they feel looser so I am using that as my motivator right now. I have been walking and tracking my food religiously and according to my tracker I should be down 2 lbs by now but thats ok I will just be patient. Testing is already beginning cause I hear there are some stalls along the way with this journey after surgery too. 34 more days to go until my surgery and I am so Excited!!!! the past 20 days have flown by so I am hoping it continues to do so. I have two parties the weekend after my surgery and I am hoping I will feel up to making an appearance. I won't push myself too hard though. the most important one is my grandma's 85th birthday party.

Pre-op Diet begins! 17 days until surgery

Well decided to start 3 days early on my pre-op diet. I get 4 shakes a day and 2 SF Jello's or 3 SF popsicles, along with a 3oz piece of meat and 1 cup cooked veggies or 2 cups salad, and I am also allowed 1 tsp butter or 1 tbsp dressing. It seems that mine is a bit more then what others can have but I am looking forward to dinner. It hasn't been too bad however I have been peeing like crazy! Forgot to weigh myself this morning but thats alright I will go with my last weigh in. I decided to start early so I am past my first 3 days by the time I have work on Monday in hopes that I will be use to it and it will be easier for me while I am at work. So far it hasn't been too bad. Just feel like I'm missing something that is all. I do have kind of a weird head feeling going on but not a headache like a head fuzz or haze. We shall see what the rest of the weekend entails!!! Have a great day and weekend!!

My Story

I have struggled all my life with my weight. I was the chubby kid, the porkly pre-teen, the fat teenager and now I am a morbidly obese adult. Yikes that was a very strong sentence. Yes I had 3 yrs of my early adult life that I was just chubby which is only because I am short (5'3) and was actually happy with my weight and would enjoy shopping and looking nice but it was a short lived 3 yrs. I fell down a hill one evening and tore my ACL in my knee and had to have surgery. I ended up being in a cast from my hip to my ankle for 9 weeks. I wasn't able to do anything and started gaining weight. I went from 140 to 180 by the time the 9 weeks ended and felt sick. I had bills that had piled up due to not being able to work and got extremely stressed out with that. And by the time it was over I had to quit my current job because I couldn't stand for more then 30 mins at a time and get a desk job. You can only imagine what occured after that. My butt widened and my jean size kept going up. During this time I also met the man of my dreams and was happy, he moved in with me after 6months and we got engaged after 9months. I was too embarassed to work out in front of him and started going out all the time eating at fancy restaurants and seeing movies. He wasn't an active person never worked out and ate what ever he wanted, he was also 6'3 so he hid his weight well. Unfortunately his mother was a great baker too and made awesome desserts that melted in my mouth way too easily. By the time we got married 3 yrs later I was up to 230 and getting married in a size 22 dress. In the years following we started a family and had two beautiful girls. Of course through each pregnancy I held onto at least 20 lbs of my pregnancy weight. I had bad post-pardon depression after my second daughter and started eating late at night eating my way to 320 lbs ! I have attempted pretty much every diet known to man and some I succeeded with and some I didn't. I have spent tons of money on food delivery services and programs. Now age 34 I have decided to take the plunge and have Weight Loss Surgery- Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. I have been working really hard the past 6 months to re-program my thoughts and feel I am prepared for this. I started the actual journey on 12/10/2012 at 318 pounds. I have lost 18 as of today. I have been taking it slowly only because I have arthritis in my feet and my knee can't handle this weight and now my hip pops in and out of place at least once a week now. My surgery is on July 22nd and I am beyond excited , nervous and anxious. I am ready to become that healthy and happy woman, mother and wife that my family and I deserve to experience. I want to be a good role model to my kids and reverse the damage I have already caused with them. I want to teach them good food choices and be active with them so we can enjoy our lives!!!

8 Weeks Post Op

On Sunday 9/22 I will be celebrating my 2 month Surgeriversery!!! I weighed in today at 252 which is 31 pounds lost since Surgery. Also a ton of inches!!! I have been extremely happy with my sleeve. I have had one episode of dumping since surgery and that was a day i was bad and got over 65 grams of carbs. My sleeve hated me that day. I am still on the meat, cheese and eggs and next week I can start adding 1/2 cup of veggies to one meal a day. I am a little scared to see how my sleeve will handle it but I am hoping for the best. I am so excited to have asparagus , cauliflower and brocolli!!! I know we aren't likely to have a dumping issue but I am positive that it was one, I was shaky, sweaty and weak. It passed with in a 1/2 hour. I hadn't had that many carbs in one day since months before surgery. Believe me I will not be having anything that isn't on my doctors approved list anymore. I was glad to have had something like that happen because it has put me back on my path. We all have times we mess up and it is what we learn from it that matters. I started Zumba on Friday nights and love it!!! My new love! I have been walking mainly since surgery so it is so nice to switch it up a little. I haven't gone shopping yet for anything but I do know I need smaller underwear!! LOL I just don't want to go out and shop and then have to shop again a month later so i have been wearing baggy clothes. I did find some old clothes of mine that now fit me that I will be wearing for a while.

6 weeks Post Op

I have lost 23 lbs since surgery!!! I am very happy with my progress so far. I was a little disappointed but then took a step back and realized how much weight that was in such a short time. For the first time in my life I want time to go by fast just for the next year. I am almost in the 250's and I am so happy. My first goal is 249 so I am just waiting for the day!!! I haven't seen that amount on the scale for years. Exercise is going well started walking 5x's a week and strenght training 3 days a week. I love working out and I feel crappy when I don't. I really want a bicycle but I will wait till spring of 2014. Food wise I am still on Meat, Cheese and Eggs only. I can introduce veggies back at 2 months. 1/2 cup per day. I am looking forward to that but they did warn me that the weigh loss will slow down due to the added carbs from the veggies. So I don't have to add them back every day or at all if I don't want too. I am down into a size 1x shirt and I haven't checked on pants yet , i know they are getting very loose but not enough to fall off and have to go to a smaller size. Tomorrow is weigh in day and I am so excited to see the 250's on my scale.

5 days till Surgery! A little TMI to come!

5 days! So excited! I am so ready to work my sleeve and begin getting healthy again. Dropped off my prescriptions this morning for after surgery and it was so weird. I am still in disbelief that the time is here. So I got my period on Saturday and had it for 4 days and now its gone. I am praying and hoping it doesn't pop back up after surgery. I hear a lot of people saying that it does. I had some different kind of cramping this period it was more painful. I am doing pretty good on Pre-Op Diet, I have lost 12 lbs in 12 days. A pound a day , I will take that!!! It is actually easy now. I don't want anything else.

3 weeks Post-Op

Can't believe it is already 3 weeks. I had my sleeve on 7/22 without Complications. Had 2 hernia's that had to be fixed also umbilical hernia and hiatal hernia. 2nd day was the worst day of all. I weighed in at 283 day of surgery and today I am 268, so 15 pounds gone. I have lost 28 since pre-op. Unbelievable and so happy about it. I have had a bit of an annoying pain that just won't go away and it is under my left breast it is like a muscle spasm it has gotten better though. My back also hurts all the time now on the left side. It is more annoying now but was an awful pain up until this week. Food wise I was sent home on pureed foods and ate eggs and chicken salad most of the time. Started on solids on August 2nd after my 1st post op appointment. My normal day is a protein shake for breakfast, chicken and cheese for lunch and some sort of meat for dinner. I have to be on meat, cheese and eggs until week 9 when I can introduce vegtables again. I am so looking forward to that. I feel like my doctor is extremely strict but I am following almost 100% . I did have some carbs once or twice since surgery. Exercise was a late start because of that pain I was having but I have finally been walking 3 to 4 x's a week for a 1/2 hour or more and I LOVE it. So missed my walking. I have my next follow up appt on Sept 4th which is an hour nutrition course and doc appt. So excited for that because I am hoping he releases me to do more activity like weights.

12 days till Surgery!

Went to my final appt with the surgeon today and signed my consent forms. Also have my pre-op blood work done. I can't believe it is only 12 days away now. Wow!!! I am still on my pre-op but now following my current surgeons diet. Not too bad 2 shakes and a 4 oz protein with 1/2 cup non starch veggies. I am also allowed 2 SF Jello's, 2 SF Popsicles and 2 Servings of Broth. Its been going good. I weighed in today at the doctors and I am now down to 291!!! Wooo Hooo!!! Down 27 lbs from my highest weight. I found out I will have to give myself injections of blood thinners at home for the first 3 days after surgery.... ahhh. It's ok I can do this it is only 3 days!!! I pray and hope the next 12 days go by real fast.
