First Fill

I had my first fill today, wasn't so bad, just the pressure when putting the needle in the port was kinda weird feeling. I really don't feel any difference he put 1 cc in my 3 or 4 cc band.He had 2 cc in and when looking at the band through the floroscope (I think that's what it was) while I was drinking the barium he said that was too much restriction so took out 1 cc. So I am on liquids for three days and then blended for three days and then if I can tolerate solids I can move on. I am very curious to find out if I have any restriction. If you are able to tell by liquids than i don't feel any different.   I am only down 1 pound since my last visit two weeks ago. 261.6

2nd visit with Dr.

I went to see my surgeon yesterday and I am down seven pounds from the last visit. 262.8 My incisions are looking good and I get my first fill on July 27th. I can't wait because I am hungry seems like all the time. I must say I am doing pretty good to not snack and just eat my three meals, but it is not easy. My goal is lose 2 or 3 more pounds until my fill in 2 and a half more weeks.     261.0

Getting hungry

I haven't lost any more weight since I started stage 4. i didn't start exercising until yesterday though, so humh maybe that has something to do with it. I'm finding that i am hungry more and more and have totally lost that feeling of not feeling hungry. So it is has been very hard not to eat like normal, but I haven't for fear of stretching my stomach or gaining back any weight i have already lost. I go see Dr. Dyer on Monday and hopefully will find out when my first fill is.I hope it works and I won't be so darn hungry all the time. This is a very hard time for me in between surgery and my first fill, I feel no restriction, however, I haven't eaten much over 4ounces at a time even though i feel like I could eat more. I guess if I ate more than that there would be more restriction then before the surgery.   Well, hopefully now that I am exercising I will drop a pound or 2 this week. I was really good the first week of mushies keeping a journal of my food and i was not even getting in 600 calories a day. I'm not sure how many calories I have been eating this past week, but i am sure it has not been over 1000 if even that many.

one more day til stage 4

Well since my post op visit where the dr. took two strips off only one has come off. I'm starting to wonder if they will ever come off without being pulled off. I am so ready to be able to clean all those areas.I've got one more day on my blended foods and then on to the stage 4. I'm still feeling very low on energy however seems in the afternoon I will get a bit more, but in the morning wow I usually feel like I am moving in very slow motion. I am eating my 3oz of protein and 2 tbsp veg at each meal and nothing more, however I could eat more because I don't feel full, but I don't want to get used to eating more and then when I get my first fill, have to go back to eating small amounts again. The good thing about this is that I am not hungry, and I pretty much have to make myself eat each meal. I finally don't have that bloated feeling anymore, my stomach is starting to feel like normal again.   My weight today 262.4 21.6 lost since pre-op diet-June 9th

7 days post op

Well my drive to the dentist wasn't bad at all, glad i went. I went to my post op appt. yesterday and I am down 2 lbs from when I weighed right before I went to the hospital. I don't know weather to count the 8 I gained in the hospital or just go by what I weighed before I went. So he said my incision and little punctures looked good. I was hoping he would take my little strips off but he said to leave them on til they fell off could be another week UGH! They are starting to itch .I feel good as far as pain I don't think I have taken any pain med since Monday. I just don't have a lot of energy. I am sleeping on my stomach now and have been since Wed night . I was able to sleep on my side about 2 or 3 days post op., which was sooo nice because I am not a back sleeper at least not ALL night. He told me I could move to blended foods :clap2:I am so very thankful I just don't know if I could have another cup of broth. I go back to see him in 3 weeks.       So this morning I had two scrambled eggs with cheese, and let me tell you just how good they were. I ate slow ,and chewed and chwed even though they were pretty much already mush. (Practicing for the real thing). I am so afraid I will forget and swallow a big unchewed bite and suffer the consequenses. I didn't feel full probably could of eaten more but I didn't. I am going to buy some canned spinach today and add 2 tbsp to my scrambled eggs tommorrow. I could of had 2tbsp of a low carb veg from MY LIST but didn't have the spinach. For lunch I will have 3 oz chicken (white meat) with some lowfat mayo and blend it up in my wonderful new Magic Bullet. , with some blended green beans. For dinner probably the same thing since I'm opening up a can of green beans I hate to waste the rest of the can, and the chicken is already pulled from a roasted chicken. I will continue this stage for 4 more days which is a little sooner than the 7 days it says in the book, but for some reason I was told to move on a little sooner.   I am going to walk today for the first time, I could have been walking sooner and I guess I should have. But will start slow and work my way up.I am down to 266.8 which is a loss of 17 lbs since my pre- op diet 2 weeks ago.I am very happy with that but I just don't really feel it. I guess when you are as big as me it takes more than that to really tell, or maybe because I am still a little bloated feeling from the surgery.   266.8

5 days post op

Today I am not feeling as bloated as I have been, seems I'm able to drink more at one time then before. I am now back to what I weighed the day of surgery. I don't feel like I've lost any weight though. I have been very good about taking all my vitamins and supplements and getting in the min amount of protein drinks. Oh eggs well never taste so good-can't wait I'm not in much pain at all just if I bend over it hurts a little. I've still had no shoulder pain Thank goodness!I do feel like I have gas in my stomach though. I still have to remember I had surgery Friday because I tend to want to do to much, and then I get really tired. I'm going to the Dentist today about 35 minutes there, and then35 min back. I hope I don't regret being in the car that long.

4 days post op

Today I am feeling very tired I'm sure due to the fact that i am not even getting in 350 calories a day, which is very hard when all you are allowed to have is sf popsicles 30 cal sf jello 10 cal ,broth 5 cal per 8 ozsf liquids which I am drinking crystal light and that is only 5 cal per 8 oz, and then my unjury protein powder per scoop 80 cal.I am so full all the time, I feel like my stomach is full of jello when I walk. I'm finding it hard to get down 600 calories a day.I think I remember my Doctor saying before i left I could have the protein supplements from either stage one or two til I see him Thursday. I will call to double check, since I was kinda drowsy that day.At least the eas Carb Control has 110 cal.   I think I'm just a little emotional today and getting ready for that time of month, and just getting cranky because I have not had any substance for 10 days.Tommorrow will be a better day I am down 7lbs of the 8 i gained in the hospital:clap2:   271 lbs

Finally Banded

Well, I made it through my 6 day pre-op liquid diet the hardest part about the pre-op was not being able to have anything to dink after midnight. I was so thirsty the morning I went to the hospital. I checked in at 10:30 I was called back to the first room where they asked all the same questions again and I got my blood thinner shot (Wow that was a fun one -you should see the bruise that left)after waiting with me for about a half hour I told my husband to go ahead and leave so he could get something to eat before he went to see our 4 year olds camp show at 1:00.We figured my surgery would be around 12:30 or 1:00 since they usually want you there 2 hours prior. However I think it was about 1 or 1:30 before I was wheeled to the room where they put in the i.v.I have to say i was starting to get very ansy and thinking okay i can still leave but since I didn't have any shoes or clothes figured it wouldn't be a good idea. NOT THAT I REALLY WOULD HAVE LEFT. But the just not knowing how long you are going to have to lay there and wait was not very fun. My husband would be back at 2:30 and I was hoping to be done with surgery. My husband was back at 2:30 and I still was not in surgery. They started around 3:00, the last thing I remember was being so cold ,and then waking up in the recovery room in a lot of pain and a whole lot of nausea, and asking for my husband. The pain and nausea must have gone away quickly with what ever they gave me cause I was out again. Not sure what time I got to my room barely remember that,I tried to drink some cranberry juice when they brought the dinner tray and it made me nauseas. My husband brought the boys around 8:00.My 7 year old did not like what he walked into and ran out the room saying I want to go home. It was a little overwhelming for him with the I.V. and beeps and probably seeing his mommy looking the way I did. My 4 year old came in very hesitantly and came and held my hand. After a few minutes the older one came back in and actually got close enough for me to hold his hand and tell him I was alright and there was nothing to be afraid about, and I would be home tommorrow. They left and I drifted back to sleep. My nurse got me up at 11:00 for a little stroll down the hall. It wasn't to bad just felt very groggy while walking. She told me she had had gastric bypass a year and a half ago. It's nice when you have a nurse who knows what your going through.I continued my pain med and nausea med throughout the night . I got up twice to go to the bathroom, which the nurse would have to come in and get the things off my legs because I could not possibly have bent over to get them off myself. In the morning I was able to sip on my crystal light and Unjury protien powder mixed together, and eventually got it all down, as well as a couple of bites of jello. My surgeon came in and cleared me to leave and I will see him this Thursday until then I will be on clear liquids.I can not wait to eat something even if it is all mushed up . I am going to have salmon and turnip greens as soon as i get to stage 3. I have not experienced the horrible gas pain I heard so much about and hoping that if it was going to happen it would have already by now. I am two days post op. The pain is not so bad just mainly when getting up from bed or a chair and getting into bed. I was able to sleep on my side for a while this afternoon, but i don't dare try my stomach yet. I have a little pain in my chest if I take a deep breathe in. It's funny my stomach is growling so loud right now, but I don't really feel hungry.I haven't had any pain medication today. and hopefully won't need any. All in all it went very well, so glad the surgery is over and I am home. Well gonna go have a cup of chicken broth and then go take a nap   278 lbs

surgery changed to the 15th of June

Well, my surgery has been changed to Friday the 15th. I don't have to be there til 10:30 a.m. I guess that beats Thursday at 5:30 a.m. I have to say I was dreading having to get up at 4:30 to be at the hospital by 5:30. However I am not so thrilled about the extra day of liquid dieting. I am so cranky and hungry!!! But I can do it:) Two and a half more days to go.

Pre op done

I had my meeting with the nutritionist and my pre op at the hospital yesterday, so I am ready to have the surgery on the 14th of this month. Can't wait! Now I just have to get ready for my 5 day liquid diet and make sure I have everything I need when I get home from the hoptital.

consult done

Well today I went to have my psyche consult and all went well, he approved me for surgery. I'm so glad to have that over, because I really had been dreading it. That test was sooo long and some of the questions made me laugh, they were so out there. I guess they wanted to make sure you were really paying attention and not just filling in the dots without looking at the question. So now I am down to the pre-op visit and seeing the nutritionist, which will all be in the same day.

getting closer

Well I have scheduled my Psyche consult for May 18th and my pre-op and meeting with the nutritionist on June 4th. I am really getting excited about this and still can't believe I actually have a date.I have told maybe ten people and not quite sure yet how many more I will tell . Oh heck knowing me I'll tell everyone that asks or wonders how I'm losing weight or why am I having surgery. People can either have nice encouraging things to say or negative ugly things to say or think. I actually don't care. I'm happy with my decision and my husband is very supportive:) Both my parents are deceased my father-in-law and his wife are supportive just haven't told my mother in law. Not quite sure what she will think. However i will be telling her on mothers day when she comes over for dinner. I'm quite certain she would love for me to not be so heavy but may think I can do it on my own.Soon to find out.

Finally have a date

Well after a long time of waiting I finally have been able to schedule my surgery. Not because of insurance (I am self pay) but because of waiting til I had the money to pay for it. I thought it would be in March then when that fell through I just knew it would be April, but NOT, so I decided to just sit back and (it will happen when it happens.) So I finally have the money and was so hoping for May which I could have done because the surgeon had three or four days open- however my husband could not take any time of in May. Since I have to small boys I figured I might need a little help after the surgery. He was able to take the week of the 11th of June off, so I got a surgery date for June 14th. Heck, I figure I've waited this long what is another 4 weeks. I have been doing a lot of reading these past few months and I feel like I know the ups and downs of this type surgery. I have read some very successful stories and some that have benn a little difficult for others. I realize that it is up to me to make this work. There will be hard days as with anything in life, but I think that the good that will come from it will definetly outweigh the bad. I know if you don't chew your food well and very well it can get stuck in your chest or stoma and if you don't eat slow it can cause great uncomfort, and in many cases come back up. I know that I will learn from trial and error. Hopefully only once!! It will be a HUGE change in my life and the way I have been eating the last 40 years of my life. I am READY for that. I am ready to: 1. Not be so darn tired all the time 2. Not sweat all the time 3. Be able to get up off the floor with some kind of grace. 4. Not be horrified the whole time I am standing in line for an amusement park ride fearing I will not be able to fit in the seat:omg: 5.Be able to wear a pair of levi jeans and a t-shirt tucked into my jeans with a belt. 6. Be able to shop in any darn store I want to. 7.Not feel like people are watching me eat and thinking she shouldn't be eating that. 8. Not have to wear stretchy pants ever again!!!(I have lived in them for at least 6 years- can't even remember the last time I wore pants with a button) 9. Not be so out of breathe just from one flight of stairs. 10. Not have to hear from my 4 year olds classmate "YOUR FAT" 11. Not have to hear from my child "YOU HAVE A BIG TUMMY" 12. Not have to hear from my then 5 year old "BECAUSE YOUR TOO FAT" when I told him no I didn't want to climb through the play area with him which is very narrow and tiny. 13.Be able to do anything with my children and not have to think OH CRAP am I going to be able to do this without embarraassing my children and myself. 14. Put a bathing suit on without the shame. 15.FEEL GOOD in general. 16. Make myself proud 17. Make my family proud! 18. Not have to wear a big ole shirt that will cover my big ole bottom. 19. Be able to sit in a theatre seat comfortably 20. Be able to sit in a reasturant booth and not have to push it towards the other side to give me more room. 21. Not sit in a chair and get stuck and wonder how the heck I am going to get out of it. I am sure there are many more I will just have to add them as I think of them.   So what I have to do now and until the time I have surgery is have my psyche exam and my pre-op and meeting with the nutritionist. Oh and do my 5 day pre-op liquid diet before the surgery. I know there are some people who probably think why in the world would you have wls? You can lose weight on your own it's not that hard. You just have to have will power. Well I have will power to lose the weight I just can't seem to keep it off once I do. And it's not like I have only tried once. How about 10 to 15 times. This is a tool that will help me to not only lose down to where I want to be (which I never got to with any of my past diets) to helping me maintain my weight once I get there. I feel pretty certain that once I get to my goal weight I will NEVER want to go back to that misery. I really want this to work and I am going to give it my 110%.I know it seems a bit drastic but I think at this point in my life it is just what I need.   So my journey begins to my new and improved well being:clap2:   My stats as of today: 04/28/07 height 5'9" weight 280 BMI 41

Lapband journey

I am 40 years old, soon to be 41. I started thinking about wls two years ago and actually wanted to have Gastric Bypass. I had no co-morbidities so my ins. would not cover it. At that time I weighed 262. I now am up to 280. I am 5'9" and at the highest weight I have ever been. I actually am glad that I didn't get the bypass surgery, because I think for me the lapband is a better choice. I have two sons ages 6 and 4 and am horrified that one day they will be embarassed when another child talks about how fat their mommy is.:cry I am self pay, my husbands company switched ins. and they don't cover wls so I couldn't even try to see if I would qualify for lapband surgery. My Dr. is Dr. David Dyer in Nashville. I really like him,I have been to the seminar and had my consult with him. I have to schedule my psyche evaluation and hopefully in the next three weeks will be having surgery. Not really sure what to except having the psyche evaluation. Should be interesting.
