My Journey

Month 4

It has been almost (just a few days shy of) 4 months since my sleeve surgery. The first month and a half was rough. Just feeling tired, and struggling with getting all the fluids in. Aside from a minor stomach bug, no complications thus far. I don't count my recent lupus diagnosis as a complication because I showed signs of that before surgery, and the 2 are completely unrelated.   As of today, I am down 60 lbs. What? Yes, let me repeat that. 60 LBS!!!! In general, I feel good. I joined a gym. But have only gone twice. That is one of my areas of improvement. Even if I just walk on the treadmill for 20-30 minutes, some activity is better than none.   I think the hardest part of this whole journey has been retraining my brain. I still get head hunger. I still get impulsive and eat wrong, then pay for it. But this is all a learning opportunity. I know it takes time. One area I struggle with lately is complete and total lack of appetite. Food does not sound or smell appetizing . Often times I just dont eat, then wonder why I feel like crap and have headaches. I guess one of the reasons I dont like to eat is that I am so utterly stuffed by 2-3 bites. It is disappointing. I used to be able to sit and eat right along with my family and friends. I felt included. Granted due to self esteem I didnt really participate in conversation.   Now it seems conversation is all I can do, since eating is done early in the meal. Am I complaining? HELL NO! I just wanted to put my thoughts on paper.   I am truly blessed with this wonderful gift of forced self control. I just need to learn how to embrace it and use it to it's full potential.   Until next time, MICHELLE

9 Freaking Days...

It has been nine days since the scale has moved. I am getting so frustrated. I know it is just the dreaded stall, but still .... Been averaging 500-600 calories a day, with 50-60 grams protien. Fluid has been averaging 45-60 oz. Could the low fluid intake cause a stall?

Here's to an awesome NEW YEAR!

Dear Michelle, Welcome to 2011! You are a wonderful person, inside and out. No one needs to tell you that , because you already know it, inside. Now, you need to put on your happy confident smile, and embrace what the next 12 months has to bring. You are already off to a great start. Down 25 lbs from your highest of 252. Your feet no longer swell, your joints arent hurting near as bad, and your moods are way better. Now....my assignment for you for the nest week is to : 1) Get all your protien in... you have been slacking. 2) Take the girls out everyday and walk, walk, walk 3) Drink more water.....can't pick on DH if you are dehydrated and lack energy LOL   On a more serious note, I love ya!   Love, Michelle

Post Op Day 10

Today is post op day 10 for me. I have begun to feel better day by day. Im still on mostly liquids, though have been trying puddings , and apple sauce. Ive found that I am extremely sensitive to sugar. Anything over a couple grams causes me to get clammy, dizzy, and eventually have to rush to the bathroom. My sister in law who has had GB tells me this is what "dumping" is. So I have been reading labels like a mad women ...HAHA   I noticed on the scale that after the first week I am no longer losing 2+ lbs a day. Its slowed down to average of 1.2 lbs a day. Hey, I am so not complaining. Since my preop diet the week before surgery, I am down 28 lbs. 28 lbs in 3 weeks, holy cow!!!!

Spoke to Nancy , my Nut today. She says I need at least 65 grams protien a day (at the minimum). So. that is my mission. Blah!   But...whatever I need to do to break this stall. Its driving me nuts.
