Experience since 1st Fill

Its been 3 weeks since my first fill. To be honest it hasn't changed my appetite or how much I am able to consume. I feel full on small portions but it feels very temporary. Within an hour or two I am hungry again. I have been exercising but still snacking too much in between meals. I need to be more focused on not eating as much.   My next fill is tuesday. I am hoping that I am able to do better going forward with my diet.

Experimental Eating Post Lap-Band

I haven't gotten my first fill yet, that happens next week. However, I have been experimenting with different solid foods to see how/if they stay down, how my stomach/body feels after eating and if my tastes have changed at all.   ....What I have to report...   FIrst off, happy to say I have not thrown-up anything!   Spicy food - love it! But I have noticed my taste buds tolerate it slightly less than used to, not heartburn like you might expect but for some reason just tastes more intense.   I have noticed eating solids I am able to eat less than I used to even without having my fill yet.   This morning I made 2 scrambled eggs, 2 slices of turkey bacon and one piece of light Italian Toast w/ 1/2 tbs of light country crock margarine. Comes to calories of 250. I ate a little too fast, and about 1/2 way through my plate had intense chest pain as if the food was about to explode out of my chest. I sat up very straight took a breather, let my food digest (took about 5 minutes approximately) and I was able to finish my plate but eating at a much slower pace and making sure to chew my food very fine. Take-away from this...chew slow and take your time. Even though my eggs got cold they still tasted good. Maybe next time I will stick to 1 egg, 1 pc. of turkey bacon.   I had a similar experience of chest pain trying to eat a home-made egg white breakfast sandwich. These are delicious and low in calories however, I was walking around the kitchen trying to eat my sandwich, pack my lunch and water my garden at the same time, I was chewing well and pacing between bites, but still had intense chest pain, had to sit down, sit up straight, and wait for it to pass. Take-away here...don't multi-task while eating, sit down, don't be up and moving around.   Recipe for my homemade egg white omelet sandwich... ...In a small round glass dish, mix... 1/2 cup liquid egg whites 1 tbs. chopped frozen onion 1 tbs. chopped frozen green pepper 1 turkey sausage patty diced (note: you can add any mix of veggies, herbs or meat to this) Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder drop of water (half a teaspoon)   ...put the glass dish w/ mixture in the microwave on high for 2 minutes...   ...meanwhile, pop 2 pcs. of light Italian bread (healthy life brand) 70 calories for 2 pcs, in the toaster...   ...spread 1 wedge of laughing cow light cheese (35 calories) on the toast...   ...When your eggs are ready, you will have a egg omelet patty to put between your 2 pcs of cheesy toast...   And there you have it...one very tasty egg white breakfast sandwich = 230 calories   I also experienced the chest pain eating dinner the other night, consisted of chopped chicken, lamb and beef (mediterranean restaurant) and rice with a side of pita bread. Again, I think had I eaten slower and chewed my meat more, I would have saved myself the pain.   Eating slow and chewing is very important, as we've all heard from the pre-surgery info given out, but when you experience the effects of eating too fast and not chewing enough - its a whole new experience, almost like aversion therapy. So I'm taking it as a good life lesson learned and I'm adjusting so that when I do get a fill, it isn't worse than I feel now.

Day 16

Feeling much better as of late, almost 100%. There is some pain at my port site but only when i'm lifting heavy items/exercising.   My appetite is surpressed but feels normal. I still count my calories and I'm definitely eating less but doesn't feel like it so that's a good thing.   Had my first post-surgery doctor's appt. a few days ago, doctor said I'm right on track with where I should be. I lost a few more lbs. again, basically what I had gained. I asked my doctor about the yo-yo-ing and he said that was normal right now, mostly it's water weight. So today I was 264 (yesterday was 263.6).   Tried cooked cherries in liquid today...mashed them with the fork...went down fine. I'm actually surprised I haven't thrown up anything but I am trying to be very consistent with the diet plan my doctor/nutritionist provided.   Worked out this morning before work, 30min on treadmill and some weight lifting. Went fine, probably could have gone longer if not for time constraints.   My major concern is that I was at one point 344 lbs. if I get to my goal weight of 145, I will mostly likely need major plastic surgery especially since the majority of my weight is carried in my stomach/abdominal area. My arms...bat wings... already have some loose skin and are sagging so that is a concern as well, I am doing arm bands to help that area. My doctor said that since I'm young and very active, loose skin should not be a problem, very minimal if at all. I can't help but feel like loose-excess skin is a definite issue. I am 99.99% certain I will have major excess skin. I can't afford plastic surgery and I'm afraid I'll look worse "skinny" than fat. My main motivation is my health but I'm worried of becoming depressed or obsessed with the way my body looks especially taking excess skin into consideration.   I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. I'll just do everything "they" say to do to prevent it and hope for the best!   It's discouraging to get so far as to loose 100's of lbs and feel like only half your journey is conquered.

Day 17

...Day 17...   New Weight: 261.8   Made an egg white scramble with 1/2 c. egg whites, 2 tbs. shredded reduced fat mozzarella cheese, fresh arugula and basil from my garden and sauted onions and bell pepper, ate slow and chewed well, stayed down just fine! Had some pork liver pate on the side (kind of like faux sausage) also stayed down just fine.   Went to yoga class again for the first time since surgery. Went well a little pain at the port site when twisting but otherwise fine. I can tell I'm going to be sore tomorrow though. Haven't used all those muscles in a while.   Everything is going good so far.

Experience Since 4Th Fill...not Good

So since my fourth fill (4cc's) I have been throwing up every day. Its been 3 weeks - the first 2 I could only hold down liquids and mushy foods. I was able to eat a half deli meat sandwich a few times and not throw up but then other times I try that and I do throw up. Some days are much worse than others. But on the average I throw up at least one meal if not all meals every day. All my friends keep telling me to go get fluid taken out. But I am concerned maybe its just me - I had practically no restriction with 3 cc's.   I can usually eat - f/f cottage cheese, greek yogurt, crackers, toast, light non-chunky soup, belvita breakfast biscuit   I held down a few times (but tried again and vomitted) - tuna salad sandwich, turkey sandwich (could only eat half a sandwich though), scrambled eggs   Vomitted a bunch after eating - cooked mustard greens and chard, baked potato, chicken breast, steamed broccoli, brown rice   I have tried all sorts of different things even from switching to wearing and underwire bra to a sports bra, waiting till 10a to eat even though I am starving in the morning.   I watch my time and I chew for at least 1 minute and wait 2-3 minutes between bites. I am not over eating at one sitting because I can only eat about 4 bites of a solid food before I have chest pain and I try to keep my bites small and chew till mush.   This constant vomitting, hunger, headaches - its all affecting my work, school and personal life.   I don't want to abandon progress - I have lost 14lbs in 3 wks. But I feel like I am now a bulemic except not by choice.   What do I do?
