After financing and doctor visits and more doctor visits, this was the day. I decided to go with Weight Loss Surgical Center in Overland Park, Kansas, and have Dr. T. Lee Nigro as my surgeon. Not sure why I chose this route, I guess just for the convenience and the quickness that they could get me in (I was starting training for a new job just two days after the surgery).
Anywho, after a week of a "mini-diet", one day of a clear liquid diet, my dad drove me to the surgical center that morning around 7 a.m. Since Steve, my husband, works nights, he was going to meet us there later. I got my paperwork filled out, went back to the room, and two different nurses spent nearly 15 minutes trying to get an i.v. in my arm (my veins are deep and like to roll).
After this, they brought my dad back and we began to watch some TV. One of the nurses came back to tell me that Dr. Nigro, who was a trauma surgeon at Overland Park Regional Med. Center, was going to be delayed 1 1/2 hours because he was stuck on a trauma case. I had no idea!
Steve showed up soon after:clap2: !! That helped to calm my nerves a bit. Then, after a shot in my IV of some kind of "relaxer," things seemed to move more quickly. I was wheeled to surgery, put to sleep, then woke up with stitches on my tummy. I wasn't in any pain, and I just kept sleeping.
My blood pressure and pulse stayed really low, so when they wanted me to walk to the radiology machine to do the barium swallow, I asked if they could wheel me down there...I totally felt as if I was going to faint!:faint: We copped a deal...I would walk to the room and they would wheel me back, if I needed it. Well, I did need it. Then, I went to the bathroom and puked twice. After that, I felt totally fine!! The nurses thought I may have been having a reaction to the anti-emetic or anesthesia. Either way, I'm glad I got it out.
I went home at 7:30 p.m. and fell fast asleep. I slept most of the next day, too. Then, two days post-op, I began training at a new job. I was week and queasy, but made it throught the four hours. Same thing today, four hours of queasiness. But now, the whole weekend ahead of me with hubby home to take care of me!!
Now, if I can just learn to eat right so I can have a BM and pass gas properly!
More later...
