November Update

I just wanted to give a quick update because it has been a couple of months since my last entry. Busy with my daughter’s wedding and she is now happily married. I've been stuck at 170 for about a month now and went to the fill station and received a small fill. Hopefully this will kick the weight loss back into gear. I haven't had a fill since April. I also haven't exercised in two weeks but I changed that starting yesterday. I'm planning on my first 5K in March 2013! Run for Life!! I have to keep away from those zombies. I think it is going to be fun.   Until next time...

August Update

I just wanted to touch base and give an update! I am feeling wonderful and very excited. I now weigh 176lb and had to buy some new pants. Yes I bought a size 12 and was grinning like a fool in the dressing room. The feeling was AWESOME! I was feeling really down the last couple of month but since I broke the 180 mark it seems I am back on track and feel great!   I am just taking one day at a time. I still keep a food diary which I know really helps me. I am running 3 times a week and do some sort of exercise every day.

Broke The 180 Mark!!

I had my aftercare appointment today and I broke the 180 mark. FINALLY! I weighed in at 178.2 today. After talking to the NP we decided not to do a fill. She stated "You have lost more than 66% of your body mass and we except 50% at the one year mark." She also stated "You have lost a great deal already now you are just going to have to change things up." So we decide to change up my exercise routines and see if a see better results in the weeks to come. I do see my doctor next week and I'm going to see what he has to say and move on from there.   I feel so much better after my visit today and I am thankful I am still losing!

July Update

Nothing has changed in the last two month weight wise. I'm still hovering between 181 and 182. I seem to have hit a hard plateau and struggling to get over it. I am still sprinting every other day and have added toning exercises on the days I’m not sprinting. I’ve stopped my morning walk at work because it is too HOT to come back presentable, LOL!!   I love  the way I feel and can’t wait to drop the next 30 lbs. I do have an aftercare appointment next week and a doctor’s appointment the week after. I really think I need a fill. I have only had two and the last one was in April. Until next month…

June Update

I just wanted to stop by and give a quick update. I'm still losing weight at a slow pace. I am a very inpatient person but I'm hanging in there. I feel great and that the most important thing. I have dropped 4 sizes since being banded and it is a great feeling to be out of the PLUS size clothing! I completed week 6 of the C25K and my doc stated he wanted me to continue with sprinting because it burns more calories. So I have been doing this around the neighborhood because the weather has been great and my blue healer loves going with me. I don't know who is in charge me or her. LOL Let’s just says she keeps me going. Also I have been taking a break in the morning and doing a 1 mile walk at work. Had to stop the afternoon walks because it is just too HOT!

Week 5 C25K

I started week 5! I was easier than last week. Which I am happy about because the last few weeks have been killing me. Also had an aftercare appointment today and down to 186! I have managed to loss about 8 lbs for the last few months but not this one. Oh well it has been a tuff one for me but I still lost and I am happy!

Week 4 C25K

Today I am starting week 4! I can't believe it. The first workout for each week has been difficult and then gets easier as the week goes on. I'm hanging in there and push myself to complete each workout. God bless me!!

Couch To 5K Workout 1

All I have to say is OMG ! I thought I was going to die or fall off the treadmill...   I kept seeing posts about this Couch to 5k and I had no idea, so I looked it up today. I found one for the treadmill and printed it out. Got home from work, changed and got on the treadmill with printout in hand. Mind you I have been sprinting every 5 minutes of my mile workouts but that was nothing compared to this 5k workout. Like I said I thought I was going to die or fall off. Now I am smiling as I write this because I just pushed myself to finish. Previously I would of given up because it was too hard. I still can't believe I finished and I will get back on the treadmill on Thursday for workout 2. If you haven't tried or bored then I would recommend. It was a great workout and I sweated my butt off. Now I need to jump in the shower and cook dinner.

Doc Is Happy And So Am I

Had an appointment with Dr Fox today and he is happy with my progress. He asked me what my secret was. I was thinking "what are you smoking?" and I told him following your instructions. He grinned and said "That is what I wanted to hear". Look at Dr Fox being funny. He is a great guy.

Cleaning Out The Closet

I had a wonderful Saturday! I cleaned out my closet of all the clothes that were to BIG! What a wonderful feeling! I told my husband and he couldn't believe it. I had to send him a pic because he was at work. This is a big deal because I usually hang on to clothes but I know I will not be wearing them ever again so why hold onto the past when I have a bright future ahead! I think some shopping is in order. LOL Loving my band!

I'm down 8.2 lbs! I am loving my band and loving life.   I also found out they put in 2cc in my band last month and today the NP told me I only needed a small fill and she put in .5cc. Hopefully this will put me in the green zone because I am so close!   PS love updated my ticker!!!

First Road Trip

I will be headed to South Carolina tomorrow. This will be my first road trip since being banded. It will be interesting trip but hopefully my husband will drive most of the way and I can sleep. I don't want to be tempted to snacking. I just want to keep with my three set meals a day. I know once we arriving in SC I will be fine. I'm just worried about the actual drive there and back. Wish me luck!

My New Begining...

Hello! I am new to this website and blogging. There is a lot of new in my life at this time. I was banded on February 3, 2012 and I am a little over three weeks post-op. I have listed below what I have experienced over the last month.   Prior to surgery my doctor, Dr. Fox, had me on the South Beach Super-Charge diet phase 1. He doesn't believe in the liquid diet because you will be on liquids after the surgery. I lost 11 lbs. prior to surgery. The couple of days before surgery the center called, a nurse called and the anesthesiologist, Dr. Wong, called. I was surprised and relieved. The day of surgery I had to be at the surgery center at 7:00am and my surgery was scheduled at 8:00am. The staff was very nice and considerate in every way possible. After signing off on all the paperwork I was brought back to change into a hospital gown and some nice warm grippy socks. I was brought back into the pre-surgery room where I was hooked up to an IV and given a shot in my stomach which was a blood thinner. Dr. Wong came and asked me a bunch of questions and answered any questions I had for him. My surgery nurse came in and introduced herself to me and said I would be brought back soon. Within the next 10 minutes my Dr. Fox came by and asked me if I was ready and from here is was a whirlwind. My surgery nurse and Dr. Wong came back. Dr. Wong gave me some sleepy drugs in my IV and I was wheeled back into the operating room. My head was already flying high and people were everywhere. The last thing I remember was this handsome guy at my right side strapping my arm down and I said "Hello". LOL it is funny now thinking about it.   Well the next thing I know I was woken out of a deep sleep to "Melodie please take a deep breath" and this happened for the next 10 minutes I guess. I couldn't keep my eyes open but I kept taking the deep breathes as directed. I slowly began to wake up and they took the oxygen off and told me I would be getting up in a few minutes for a short walk. I was moved into the next room where I was able to sit and they gave me a warm blanket and the nurse brought my husband back. The nurse (I didn’t get his name) kept checking on me and asking me how I was doing. He brought me water and told me to take small sips. I was still very sleepy and kept dozing off on my husband. The nurse came by and took to me restroom and I walked myself back. The nurse stated I was faster than he was. He asked me if I needed anything else right now and I told him I felt sick to my stomach and he said I can fix that. He came back and put something in my IV and within seconds I felt better. The nurse then came back and brought some post-op paperwork we went over and brought me some plastic thing to help with breathing. It was very difficult. I had to use this thing every hour and use it 10 times. I also had to get up and walk around every hour. Dr. Fox came by and asked me how I was doing and asked if I was ready to head home. YES by this time I was ready to head home and crawl into my own bed. The nurse removed my IV and I was released about 11:30am.   When I got home my husband went into the house first and put our dogs outside. He didn’t want them to jump on me. We have a two story and he helped me up the stairs and I crawled into my bed. My husband was a very good care taker bringing me water, making sure I used the breath thing and walking around. Also he made sure I took my medicine as needed. After I was settled my husband went to fill my prescriptions. Once he got back I took the pain killer which I highly recommend. I took my every four hours and took Advil two hours into the four hours. Dr. Fox recommended this, which I would do the same. I did this until Sunday and then went straight to Advil alone expect for bedtime. I thought I would be able to go back to work on Monday but was still sore so I called in sick. I did go to work on Tuesday and it was very uncomfortable driving. I was still very gassy at and took gas-x chewable which helped.   I have been following my doctor’s post-op instructions to the T. I had a follow up with him on February 15 and he said everything is healing and looks good. At my weigh in I had lost a total of 18 lbs. J He gave me my meal plans for the next two weeks and told me to stay away from pork and beef (except hamburger) until 3 months after surgery. I have to say I did have some pork-lion the other night for dinner and it went down fine.   One thing I must tell you if you sneeze you will feel like you are dying! I sneezed on the way to my last doctor’s appointment and thought I was going to die, it hurt so badly. It has gradually has gotten better. It still hurts a little but is bearable. The insides take longer to heal the outside. I still get gassy after drinking my protein but it passes and I can count on one hand how many times I have had a bowl movement (gross I know). Weird…   I have my first aftercare appointment today. We will see how that goes and if I get my first fill today. I hope this way helpful information for someone. If you have any questions please ask.       Melodie
